Overview

The Education Coordinator plays a key leadership role at VEC by ensuring high-quality instructional practices and curriculum development that meet the diverse needs of special education students. This position provides training, supervision, and mentoring to teachers, ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, and helps align curriculum with each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Responsibilities

  • Lead curriculum research, design, and implementation for VEC.

  • Provide coaching and feedback to teachers through lesson plan reviews, classroom observations, and professional development.

  • Support integration of technology into instructional practices.

  • Collaborate with Behavior Analysts to ensure effective implementation of IEPs and Individualized Alternative Education Plans (IAEPs).

  • Serve as an administrative representative during IEP meetings and ensure all requirements are met.

  • Guide transitional and vocational services to prepare students for success beyond the classroom.

  • Track and evaluate emerging instructional practices and recommend adoption of innovative approaches.

  • Develop and deliver in-service trainings to enhance instructional quality.

  • Evaluate instructional effectiveness and provide structured feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Participate in staff meetings, after-school programs, and community engagement activities that support the Villa’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education.

  • Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in developmental disabilities.

  • 3–5 years of teaching experience with relevant student populations.

  • Strong knowledge of IEP development and special education regulations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and internet-based research.

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record.
