POSITION DESCRIPTION:Â

The successful candidate will be responsible for on-site administration of construction contracts for transportation, parks, stormwater and water systems to assure compliance with regulations and contracts. The position performs general engineering work involved in the design, review and inspection of capital and development engineering and construction projects including transportation, parks, stormwater, water and wastewater systems.

The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of duties such as:
- On-site administration of construction contracts: Ensure that projects are constructed in accordance with regulations, contract requirements, approved engineering drawings, plans and specifications to assure quality construction of facilities, structures and roadways.
- Identify and resolve construction problems: Analyze construction problems encountered and make minor design adjustments to fit field conditions. Recommend corrective courses of action for potential design and construction problems.
- Ensure environmental protection and historic preservation of the area surrounding the project in compliance with project requirements.
- Maintain Documentation: Ensure all required inspections and documentation are completed and included in the project file.
- Public Engagement: Coordinate with agency representatives, city and other government officials, property owners, local utilities and other interested parties as needed.
- Work independently and use initiative and discretion within established guidelines.

The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the PW Infrastructure Deputy Director and will have no supervisory responsibilities.

The Engineering Technician is a regular, non-exempt position based on-site with a normal work schedule of 40 hours per week. Actual work schedules are flexible, and some remote work may be possible.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the level of required knowledge and abilities may be considered. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

- Education: Equivalent to an associate’s degree with course work in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Experience:Â Four years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience with a good understanding of construction administration and inspection.
- Certifications/Licenses: Possession of a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Skills, Knowledge and Ability:
- Basic knowledge of construction engineering, contract administration, construction methods and practices, survey, and inspection techniques associated with the work.
- Skill in basic office computer software and the ability to adapt quickly to the use of software specific to engineering construction.
- Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
- Ability to interpret project plans and use sound judgment in analyzing and solving basic construction problems.
- Ability to safely navigate construction sites with exposure to noise, dust and all-weather conditions and perform occasional physical activities associated with inspections. Requires local travel on a regular basis.
