Job DetailsJob Location: Bernalillo, NM 87004Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $21.19 - $23.84 Salary/yearJob Shift: DayJob Category: Environment Position Summary  Responsible for collection and disposal of residential and Pueblo government solid waste. Attends the Waste Transfer Station providing assistance to Tribal Members to unload solid waste and recycling materials as needed. Maintains Waste Transfer Station by keeping property clean and orderly. Receives, sorts, and safely stores household hazardous waste, used oil, and EPA universal wastes (fluorescent lamps, batteries, consumer grade herbicides and pesticides) for disposal by hazardous waste contractor. Responds to requests to dispose of deceased pets. Cleans up illegal dumping within tribal boundaries. Performs other duties as assigned.  Our philosophy is built on the principles of integrity, fairness, collaboration, communication, and recognition for performance excellence. Meeting all performance standards leads to attracting and retaining a qualified workforce, provides opportunities for qualified team members, and contributes towards the ongoing success at Pueblo of Sandia today and in the future.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities Collects solid waste from bins assigned to each home on the Pueblo on an approved schedule and from Pueblo Government departments as needed. Collects recycling from Pueblo Government departments. Unlocks and opens gates during hours of operation, controls access to transfer station property. Attends to customer needs including guiding vehicles into the transfer station, assisting with unloading, and controlling what waste is disposed of at the transfer station. Assists customers with sorting recyclables into designated containers. Coordinates dumpster exchange with the trash hauler. Picks up trash, cuts weeds, and maintains cleanliness of transfer station. Distributes trash bags annually to elderly residents. Collects used appliances from Pueblo residences once placed outside the home. Hauls recyclables to certified recycling centers. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned schedule each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo of Sandia.   Additional Responsibilities Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications   Education and Experience  Required: High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent Six (6) months experience in a general maintenance or custodial position or in a position involving the cleaning or repair of facilities and equipment  Note: Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy education and/or work experience. License/Certifications/Registrations Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License Must be able to successfully complete and maintain First Aid & CPR Training within 3 months of hire date. Must be able to successfully complete backhoe, chainsaw, skid steer and heavy equipment operation and maintenance training within 6 months of hire date. Must be able to successfully complete and maintain 24 Hour HAZWOPER course within the first year from date of hire. Must be able to successfully complete and maintain NMDOT Waste Certification, SWANA-NM Transfer certification within the first year from date of hire. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation. Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.   Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The following selected physical activities are required to perform the essential functions of this position Physical Requirement Description Balancing Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
