POSITION PROFILE

The sommelier is passionate, knowledgeable, and service-driven. This person will  elevate the guest experience at our fine dining restaurant. The ideal candidate brings deep appreciation for both Old World and New World wines, strong sales acumen, and a confident yet gracious presence on the floor. This role is guest-facing, education-focused, and performance-driven, with commission-based earning potential tied directly to wine sales.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Curate, maintain, and present the wine program with excellence and attention to detail
  • Provide thoughtful wine recommendations tailored to guest preferences, menu selections, and budget
  • Actively drive wine sales through confident, polished, and authentic tableside engagement
  • Educate guests and staff on wine regions, varietals, vintages, and pairings
  •  Maintain a visible, professional, and welcoming presence on the dining room floor
  •  Collaborate with the culinary and management teams on pairings, menu updates, and special events
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and service of all wines
  • Uphold the highest standards of hospitality, professionalism, and brand representation
  • Meet and conduct wine tastings with vendors, seasonally update wine lists and assist management with ordering of the product

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum Level 2 Sommelier certification (or equivalent) required
  • Strong working knowledge of Old World and New World wines
  • Proven salesmanship with the ability to increase guest spend while enhancing the experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  •  Energetic, upbeat personality balanced with polish, poise, and professionalism
  • Passion for wine education and guest engagement
  •  Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-end dining environment
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holiday
  • Confident and gracious floor presence
  • Educator mindset with a genuine love for sharing knowledge
  • Self-motivated and results-driven
  • Warm, polished, and guest-focused demeanor

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to lift, push, carry 20 - 40 lbs.
  • Stand continuously for long periods of time.
  • Communicate information and hotel services to management, staff and guests.
