Purpose

The purpose of a Forklift Operator is to safely and efficiently move, load, unload, and organize materials and products within the facility. This role ensures that finished goods are properly staged for shipping, and all inventory movements are accurately recorded.

The Forklift Operator ensures efficient material handling and supports smooth daily operations by safely moving, loading, unloading, and staging materials as needed for production and shipping. This is achieved through accurate documentation of material movements, proper equipment operation, and effective communication with supervisors, production staff, and logistics personnel. The role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform routine material handling tasks following detailed written procedures and specific verbal instructions.
  2. Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely to move, load, unload, and stage materials as required.
  3. Conduct cycle counts and assists with maintaining accurate inventory levels.
  4. Participate in monthly inventory with cycle counting.
  5. Reorganize, relocate, and consolidate large material bags (up to 2,500 lbs.) to maintain efficient use of warehouse space.
  6. Track and record inventory transfers, verifying totals and preparing daily reports.
  7. Unload incoming goods such as flake bags, resin, and part items, ensuring materials match accompanying documentation and are handled safely.
  8. Load and unload shipments including LTL, FedEx, and UPS deliveries.
  9. Sort and consolidate reusable and damaged pallets as part of warehouse organization and safety efforts.
  10. Record and report received items, distributing or notifying appropriate personnel as needed.
  11. Track, trace, and update the status of all inbound and outbound shipments.
  12. Review daily shipping lists to ensure all orders are processed accurately and on time; communicate any discrepancies to the supervisor or manager.
  13. Pick and stage shipments, re-bagging material when necessary (up to 2,500 lbs. each).
  14. Screen semi-truck drivers in and out, verifying delivery confirmation numbers, paperwork, and seal numbers.
  15. Operate the certified scale for both light and heavy shipments and record accurate weights.
  16. Generate Bills of Lading (BOL) and all required shipping documentation.
  17. Utilize basic computer applications such as NAV and Excel to complete daily tasks and record data.
  18. Perform other related duties as assigned to support shipping, receiving, and production operations.
  19. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/ Education / Experience / Certifications

1. Education:

  1. High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate).

2. Experience:

  1. Minimum of 1–2 years of experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment in a manufacturing, warehouse, or logistics environment.
  2. Proven experience in shipping and receiving operations, including loading/unloading trucks and preparing shipping documentation.
  3. Familiarity with inventory control processes such as cycle counting, tracking transfers, and maintaining accurate material records.
  4. Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., NAV) and basic computer applications such as Excel for data entry and reporting.
  5. Demonstrated ability to safely handle large or heavy materials (up to 2,500 lbs.) while following OSHA and company safety standards.
  6. Prior experience verifying and reconciling shipment paperwork, Bills of Lading, and delivery documentation preferred.
  7. Experience maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area to support production and logistics flow.

  2. Bi-Lingual – Spanish is a plus
