FACILITIES ASSISTANT - SENIOR CENTER

ABOUT THE ROLE

Stilly Valley Center in Arlington, WA is looking for a dedicated and capable
Facilities Assistant to help keep our senior center running safely, smoothly,
and welcomingly. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in
the lives of older adults in our community every single day.

Our ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, experience with facilities
maintenance and event coordination, and excellent time management skills. You
will assist with daily operations, ensure inventory availability, help maintain
all equipment, and report to the Executive Director.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Assistant ensures the daily operations of a building or site run
safely and efficiently. Responsibilities span hands-on maintenance, member
service, and administrative tasks, including assisting the event planner with
building walkthroughs, space setups, vendor coordination, and general upkeep.

The Facilities Assistant is responsible for general maintenance and repairs of
the facilities; arranging room setup for classes, programs, groups, and event
rentals on a daily basis, including some weekends; janitorial assistance; and
the overall good repair and safety of the facilities. This position may also
assist the Executive Director in the evaluation, contracting, and management of
trades contractors for more advanced maintenance and repair initiatives.

The role is broadly categorized into three main areas of responsibility.


1. OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE

- Routine inspections: Conduct building walkthroughs to check for safety
  hazards, lighting issues, and equipment failures, and report maintenance
  needs promptly.
- Repairs and handyman tasks: Complete minor repairs (e.g., painting,
  tightening hardware) and perform basic preventative maintenance.
- Space and event setup: Arrange rooms, tables, and equipment for meetings,
  events, programs, groups, and physical activities on a daily basis, including
  setup and breakdown for special activities.
- Meet with the rental lead to review room setup and coordinate setup and
  takedown after each event.
- Janitorial: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of common areas,
  restrooms, and activity spaces.
- Groundskeeping: Assist with the upkeep of entryways, exterior areas, and
  parking lots.
- Secure buildings at the end of the day.
- Complete work orders from various departments.


2. ADMINISTRATION AND INVENTORY

- Inventory management: Track stock levels of cleaning supplies, tools, and
  office goods; assist with restocking; and submit reorder requests.
- Asset and space management: Manage room bookings, coordinate deliveries, and
  maintain records of work orders.
- Basic use of Outlook, Excel, and Word in Office 365. Use of phone apps for
  climate controls.


3. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SPACE/EVENT SETUP

- Greet and assist seniors, guests, and visitors in a friendly and respectful
  manner.
- Assist staff and volunteers in supporting senior center operations.
- Support a safe, accessible, and comfortable environment for all center
  participants.
- Access and security: Monitor facility entrances, enforce building policies,
  and secure the premises.
- Emergency response: Act as a first responder for incidents and assist in the
  execution of the building's emergency action plan.

Other duties as assigned.


RELATIONSHIPS

1. Supervised by the Executive Director.
2. Work directly with service maintenance vendors as needed.
3. Demonstrate friendly, courteous, and effective communication skills with
   staff, participants, volunteers, and guests.
4. Communicate regularly with the Board Facilities Chair on specific facility
   needs.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities of paid staff; however,
supervision of volunteers may apply at times, overseeing the Food Room.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative
of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may

Education and Experience:

1. High school diploma or GED (associate's degree is preferred).
2. Two to three years of maintenance, property, and event setup/takedown
   experience required. Previous custodial experience is a plus.
3. Knowledge of basic health and safety requirements as outlined by WA State
   Labor and Industries (L&I). Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and
   safety standards preferred.
4. Experience building, implementing, and tracking a comprehensive preventive
   maintenance program, which includes documenting issues and time tracking as
   required by Center leadership.

   Non-reactive and able to be flexible as needed.
7. Must be a self-starter, able to recognize a need before a task is assigned.
8. Strong attention to detail and a reliable work ethic.
9. Ability to work independently and creatively, as well as part of a team.
10. Must be comfortable working in multiple locations, across multiple
    properties, on any given day.
11. Ability to respond to multiple demands in a courteous and effective
    manner.
12. Valid Washington State driver's license.
13. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed.
14. Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read documents, write reports and correspondence, speak effectively
with persons who may be hard of hearing, and demonstrate effective oral and
written communication skills.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to problem solve and prioritize.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a physically demanding position. You must be able to stand, walk, bend,
and lift items throughout a standard shift, including standing for extended
periods.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed in a temperature regulated environment with a moderate
noise level. Some work outside in varying climatic conditions may be required.


BACKGROUND CHECK
