Mayo Clinic's cardiovascular surgery practice provides comprehensive surgical and mechanical circulatory support for patients with a wide range of illnesses. The cardiovascular surgery practice performs 2000-3000 operations per year for patients worldwide with complex surgical needs including cardiothoracic transplantation. Programs are academically focused on teaching, quality improvement, and high-quality scientific research. The Critical Care Pharmacist will serve alongside exceptionally talented staff and receive robust support from the Department of Pharmacy, Cardiovascular Surgery, and Mayo Clinic.

Pharmacy staff continue to attain academic rank with the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and are being increasingly recognized on regional, national, and international stages. Our department’s pharmacy residency has been accredited by ASHP since 1973. It has grown to become the primary training site for over 20 pharmacy residents, including various specialty residencies, longitudinal local pharmacy students, and pharmacy summer interns from around the country. Our staff also regularly interface with and educate medical trainees including physician residents and fellows.
Daily pharmacist clinical services consist of robust bedside rounding as part of a multidisciplinary team, identification and intervention of drug-related issues, provision of recommendations on optimization of patient-specific drug therapy, admission and discharge medication reconciliation, transition of care planning, routine use of expansive collaborative practice agreements, response to medical emergencies including cardiac arrest and mass casualty events, and direct patient care on a rotating basis. As an institution valuing education, preceptorship and mentorship of learners is expected. Involvement in scholarly activities including quality initiatives and multidisciplinary research is encouraged and supported through extensive institutional and departmental resources.
The position will be rotating days & evenings with weekend shifts in Central Pharmacy every 3rd weekend.
