We’re looking for a Lead Electrical Controls Engineer with a strong background in PLC programming, automation, and control systems, along with proven experience guiding and developing engineering talent.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex industrial automation projects while providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and shaping engineering standards across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership – Provide day to day technical leadership for electrical engineers and designers, ensuring quality, consistency, and efficiency across projects.
- Control System Design – Lead the design and development of electrical control systems based on customer specifications, selecting components and defining testing methods.
- PLC & HMI Programming – Oversee development, troubleshooting, and optimization of PLC and HMI programs to ensure reliable automation performance.
- Technical Problem-Solving – Drive resolution of complex technical challenges and establish scalable, long term solutions.
- Compliance & Standards – Ensure all designs meet UL 508A, NEC, IEC, and internal engineering standards.
- Mentorship & Development – Coach and develop engineers through regular feedback, technical guidance, and career development support.
- Workload & Resource Planning – Assist in prioritization, delegation, and balancing of engineering resources across projects.
- Design Reviews & Best Practices – Lead Design Reviews and drive continuous improvement of engineering processes, templates, and standards.
- Customer Collaboration – Act as a senior technical point of contact with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver best in class solutions.
What We’re Looking For:
- Expertise in Electrical Controls & Automation – Experience designing, programming, and implementing control systems for industrial applications.
- PLC & HMI Proficiency – Hands-on experience with RSLogix, Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, or similar platforms is a must.
- Software Skills – Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or comparable design software, Microsoft Excel/Word/Outlook; EPLAN experience is a plus.
- Proven Leadership Experience - Experience leading engineers, mentoring team members, or managing technical teams.
- Strong Troubleshooting & Technical Aptitude – Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical and automation-related issues.
- Self-Sufficient & Detail-Oriented – Works independently with a high level of integrity and attention to detail.
- Effective Communicator – Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a professional presence when working with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ownership Mindset - Takes accountability for team performance, project outcomes, and continuous improvement.
- Ability To Balance Ledership & Technical Work - Comfortable remaining hands-on while leading others.
- Limited Travel Requirement – Travel is minimal, only 10% of the time to remote job sites as needed.
