About this opportunityÂ
This safety sensitive position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the mechanics who maintain and repair a large fleet of trucks, machinery, and heavy equipment across all districts and garages. Provide technical training, guidance and support to team members in a positive and respectful manner.
What your role will look like:
- Oversee fleet team daily work orders across all garages.
- Ensure the preventive maintenance (PM) schedule is adhered to.
- Travel to fleet garages and off-site facilities on a regular and ad hoc basis.
- Provide ongoing technical guidance to mechanics regarding repairs and other vehicle issues.
- Identify training needs and provide training when applicable; determine external sources to provide training when necessary.
- Review work orders at various locations to verify they are completed correctly, including labor hours and parts used.
- Audit vehicle inspections periodically to ensure adherence to company standards.
- Inspect the safety equipment and the overall condition of the garages to ensure that safety is the top priority.
- Maintain a proficient working knowledge of and consistently enforce Eastern’s safety policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of our business, products, propane conversions, and processes including workorders and inventory.
- Collaborate with and assist the Fleet Manager with the following:
- Manage deadlines, due dates, and test dates for inspections, registrations, visual leakage (VK) tests, crane inspections, hydrostatic pressure tests, and meter calibrations.
- Manage the parts inventory process in garages.Â
- Identify and collaboratively resolve technology needs in the garages with members of the IT and Business Systems teams.Â
- Ensure vehicle compliance on local, State, and Federal levels.
- Coordinate unscheduled vehicle maintenance with field managers.
- Crosstrain with Fleet Manager and Fleet Administrator to learn selected job functions in order to provide departmental support when necessary.
- Develop and maintain ongoing communication with field managers regarding fleet needs, conditions, and changes in respective locations.Â
- Create work order templates for new work order types.
- Be receptive to and competently use new technologies.
What you’ll bring to this roleÂ
- Education: High school graduate minimum.
- Experience: 10+ years truck maintenance; Class 8 truck/diesel mechanical background required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Create, maintain, and report from Excel; create Word documents; use Microsoft Outlook.
- Experience with propane powered vehicles and propane conversions required.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including DOT and CSA is preferred.
- Experience with tracking and filing Original Equipment Manufacturer warranties.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work through time management.
- Proven work drive and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Possess strong leadership and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn, collaborate, and share knowledge with others.
- Ability to build strong relationships with team members and members of Eastern’s management team.
