Responsibilities


HYBRID: This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of any of the Mayo Clinic campuses for on-site expectations based on business needs. 
 

The HB OP Coder reviews, analyzes, and assigns codes from medical record documentation to include, but not limited to, medical diagnostic and procedural information for outpatient medical and surgical encounters on the facility claim.



Qualifications


High School diploma and 4 years Hospital Outpatient coding experience (non-Mayo) OR 4 years non- Hospital Outpatient Mayo Clinic coding experience
OR
Associate's Degree and 2 years Hospital Outpatient coding experience (non-Mayo) OR 2 years non-Hospital Outpatient Mayo Clinic coding experience required
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist — Physician (CCS-P) or a coding credential of a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
1 . Knowledge of Hospital Outpatient coding Experience with National Correct Coding Initiative edits (NCCI), National Coverage Determinations (NCD), Local Coverage Determinations (LCD), and Outpatient coding guidelines for official coding and reporting.
1. In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, patient health record content and the medical record coding process.
2. Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques related to compliant healthcare billing/collections.
3. Knowledge of coding and billing requirements for services furnished in a teaching settings.
4. Knowledge of coding and billing requirements for provider based billing facilities.
5. Ability to work independently in a teleworking environment, to organize/prioritize work, exercise excellent communication skills, is attentive to detail, demonstrate follow through skills and maintain a positive attitude.
