Position Overview

Maintenance Technician will oversee the maintenance upkeep, repair, and maintenance of YWCA facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintenance and repair processes, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and functionality of our infrastructure. Creating a welcoming environment for all clients, staff and community members. 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Execute the maintenance required to prepare newly vacated units for move in including painting, plumbing, minor electrical work, simple carpentry, install and maintain smoke detectors, CO sensors and appliances.
  2. Manage the process of completing work orders. 
  3. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and clients.
  4. Communicate the status of work fulfillment to supervisor and Property Manager. 
  5. Inspect equipment and facilities regularly to identify issues and implement preventive maintenance measures. 
  6. Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems.
  7. Work with Facilities Manager and Property Manager to coordinate with vendors and contractors for maintenance services and repairs. 
  8. Maintain inventory of spare parts and equipment and ensure adequate stock levels. 
  9. Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements; abide by safe work practices and procedures.
  10. Maintain exterior grounds, including mowing lawns, trimming vegetation, snow removal and ensuring overall property cleanliness and curb appeal. 
  11. Provide residents outstanding customer service.
  12. Assist in setting up and breakdown of special events.
  13. Collaborate with external and internal departments and vendors to support their maintenance needs.
  14. Work in an on-call rotation that will require night and weekend flexibility. 
  15. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall operations of the organization. 




Qualifications:

  • High school education with relevant technical certification preferred.
  • Proven experience in maintenance or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards related to maintenance operations. 
  • Proficiency in maintenance management software and tools. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and cost control principles.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform manual labor.
  • Comfort with working in various weather conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • A valid and clean NYS driver’s license is required. Must have a reliable vehicle.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Usual human services office working conditions prevail. Must be willing to travel unaccompanied to areas where the population served lives. Must be available to work 37.5 hours per week and the work hours may include evenings or weekends.
