Job DetailsJob Location: 1400 - Rochester Hills, MI 48307Job Shift: DayJob Summary The Model Maker uses prints, drawings, specifications, or other means to create a model to a customer specification. Duties and Responsibilities Constructing, assembling, or modifying parts, models, molds, and fixtures using manual and power tools. Expertise in selecting and working with various materials, including plastics, metals, and composites. Align, fit, and join parts using bolts and screws or by welding or gluing. Cut, shape, and form parts using lathes, power saws, snips, power brakes and shears, files, and mallets. Drill, countersink, and ream holes in parts and assemblies for bolts, screws, and other fasteners, using power tools. Grind, file, and sand parts to finished dimensions. Inspect and test products to verify conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments or circuit testers. Also includes Inspecting finished models for accuracy, troubleshooting, and testing functionality. Lay out and mark reference points and dimensions on materials, using measuring instruments and drawing or scribing tools. Other duties as assigned QualificationsPrevious experience working in an automotive company making models. Must be able to read blueprints and interpret engineering drawings. A high school diploma is required; or a certificate from an accredited technical or industrial trade school is preferred. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and may require repetitive use of the hands and arms.  Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
