$19.62 - $26.49The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Using independent judgment and initiative, the Physician Support Specialist performs routine and non-routine duties of a highly confidential nature. Duties will include complex secretarial, administrative and physician support duties, contributing to the coordination of patient care, managing and monitoring of the in-basket and work queues, acts as a liaison between patients and their care team, and assists with coverage of clinics and projects when necessitated by Practice Manager or other Administrator. The position reports directly to the Practice Manager and will also work in collaboration with the Administrator II, Nurse Manager, Medical Director and health providers. The incumbent will apply University policies, procedures and privacy standards in the performance of all duties.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Examines the clinical schedule(s) on a continuous basis to identify opportunities for optimizing the time and effort of providers. Schedules, cancels and reschedules patient appointments as directed. Proactively works the waitlist to optimize provider schedules.   May be responsible for finding missing orders and pending them for review and approval. May be responsible for anticipating needs of insurance companies by gathering all necessary information for referrals and prior authorizations.
- Manages and monitors in-basket(s) and work queue(s) on a daily basis to ensure referrals, appointments, telephone encounters and all related activities are completed and accurate; communicates any discrepancies back to clinical support and/or provider for clarification. Reviews After Visit Summary and/or check-out notes when necessary to follow through on scheduling needs.
- In a professional manner, responds and documents appropriately to patient calls as they are forwarded into the in-basket. When necessary, gathers information, evaluates callers concerns and refers to physicians or other health care personnel to address. Must possess the ability to determine which questions should appropriately be addressed by physicians or other health care providers. Responds to callers independently and follows-up to be sure customers are satisfied that requests were handled in a timely fashion.
- May be responsible for template management, will assist with provider bumps and template change and time off request form completion for multiple providers.
- May manage provider calendar(s) and schedule(s), prioritizes appointments and meetings based on provider preferences. Chooses and recommends among competing demands.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma required
- Associates degree in Medical, Secretarial, billing or related field preferred
- 2 years of relevant experience required
- or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated customer service skills required
- Medical Terminology, experiences with surgical/appointment scheduling software and electronic medical records, preferred.
