PURPOSE

Assist in welcoming residents to Emergency Housing. 聽Prepare healthy meals, for women and children within the shelter. 聽 Assist volunteers with room clean outs to prepare for new arrivals. Maintains daily inventory of food and household products. 聽Assist in day-to-day housing operations.

Job Duties:

  1. Help resident and community volunteers distribute food and personal items to Emergency Housing (EH) as needed.聽
  2. Maintain the food pantry rotating food so it does not expire.聽
  3. At times, assist Team Lead with preparing monthly menus for shelter.聽
  4. Work with staff and volunteers to prepare meals for the shelter.聽
  5. Facilitate weekly cooking sessions that focus on healthy eating, food safety and eliminating waste.聽
  6. Assist resident and community volunteers to prepare vacated EH rooms for the next resident. Ensure there is a stock of healthy linens and supplies. When volunteers are not available will ensure all units are stocked.
  7. Maintain health and sanitation condition of the rooms, units and facility.
  8. Complete shelter laundry as needed to ensure rooms are ready for new residents.
  9. Perform other duties as requested.

聽NIGHT SHIFT: 聽Monday to Friday - 11:00 pm to 7:00 am (Full-Time)聽

RELEVANT BACKGROUND

Experience and Education Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and experience working in a non-profit residential program. 聽
  • One (1) year experience in crisis intervention.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Must demonstrate basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and email communication聽

Additional Requirements

Must possess a valid NYSDL and have access to a vehicle.

WORK聽ENVIRONMENT

Usual human services office working conditions prevail. 聽Must be willing to travel to areas where the population served congregate or live. 聽聽

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Must be able to lift 50lbs.聽
