Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Resident Assistant will provide support to Hope House residents and create a hospitable and safe environment in the shelter. On Call Residents must agree to work at least one 8-hour shift per month, and cover at least 3 Salvation Army holidays throughout the calendar year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to shelter residents.
  • Monitor the activities of the residents within the shelter environment. Complete daily Shift log checklist during your shift. Review and record the Communication Log each shift.
  • Conduct security wanding upon resident admission, as well as random wand checks.
  • Monitor the physical facility by making rounds every half hour and conducting periodic inspections to ensure rooms are clean, facility is secure and that clients are abiding by house rules.
  • Make referrals to alternative emergency shelter providers when Program beds are unavailable.
  • Maintain basic record keeping responsibilities. This includes performing electronic intakes in the database and completing accurate time sheets in a timely manner.
  • Check your individual work email daily.
  • Attend and participate in monthly Staff meetings/Resident meetings.
  • Attend relevant In-Service training/conferences, as requested.
  • Complete all mandatory training (in-person and online) in a timely manner.
  • Clean linens, maintain cleanliness of the facility (inside and perimeter).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED will be reviewed. Associated Degree preferred.
  • Crisis intervention, interpersonal and communication skills needed.
  • Ability to work in a continually changing and challenging environment.
  • Flexibility in personal work schedule. Must be available for relief hours as needed.
  • Basic computer skills required for completion of intakes, time sheets, email, daily logs.
