Job Title: Supervisor, Sterile Processing Tech

Department: Sterile Processing Dept

Location: Rochester General Hospital (RGH) - 1425 Portland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621

Hours per week: 40, Full-time

Schedule: Monday-Friday, Evenings, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM

Summary

This is a working supervisor position reporting to the manager of the Sterile Processing Center (SPC). Responsibilities include planning, organizing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of SPC, the care, preparation and maintenance of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies. Serves as a key contact and resource for Operating Room questions and issues. Ensures adherence to The Joint Commission (TJC) and State Board of Health regulations. Supervises daily activities of assigned staff.

Required Qualifications

  • CRCST certification (Certified Registered Central Service Technician)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 months of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician

  • Minimum one (1) year of Supervisory experience

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Sterile Processing department, ensuring the timely decontamination, sterilization, assembly, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, hospital, and quality standards related to sterile processing and infection prevention.

  • Monitor workflow, identify opportunities for process improvement, and implement operational efficiencies to support surgical services.

  • Maintain instrument and equipment readiness by coordinating repairs, replacements, inventory levels, and supply management while supporting cost control initiatives.

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to Sterile Processing staff, including scheduling, coaching, training, performance feedback, and assisting with recruitment and employee development.

  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with Operating Room staff, Nursing, Infection Prevention, Engineering, Environmental Services, and other key stakeholders to support patient care.

  • Support quality assurance and patient safety initiatives by maintaining sterilization records, monitoring departmental quality metrics, and promoting a safe, compliant work environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

H - Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires constant walking, standing or squatting.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
