Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Utility Worker / Production Technician to support daily powder coating operations by preparing materials and fabricated parts for finishing. This role is responsible for surface preparation, part handling, basic fabrication tasks, and maintaining quality and safety standards throughout the production process.

The ideal candidate has experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment, is comfortable using power and hand tools, and takes pride in producing high-quality work in a fast-paced shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare parts for powder coating through cleaning, sandblasting, rust and oil removal, and other surface preparation methods.
  • Ensure parts are properly processed and prepared using basic chemical pretreatment knowledge.
  • Hang and position parts appropriately for coating operations.
  • Assemble product components according to production specifications and work instructions.
  • Perform basic fabrication and mechanical tasks including drilling, sawing, grinding, cutting, and bending metal components.
  • Read and follow job packets, production instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment.
  • Complete required production reports and related documentation accurately.
  • Support material flow and production efficiency throughout the department.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of production experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately to 1/16”.
  • Proficiency with common hand tools and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills, including file navigation and time management software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret written instructions, safety procedures, and operating manuals in English.
  • Ability to distinguish colors accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and goal-oriented.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms.
  • Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or balance.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely in a physically demanding production environment.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position works in a manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to:

  • Moving mechanical equipment
  • Dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Hot and cold temperatures
  • Wet or humid conditions
  • Elevated work areas
  • Moderate noise levels

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Employees are required to wear appropriate PPE at all times, including:

  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection
  • Gloves appropriate to materials handled
  • Face masks or respirators as required
  • Closed-toe shoes in all production areas
