This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires two years with heavy and light equipment or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses: Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and current DOT Medical Card required. Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the, operation, maintenance, and capabilities of the equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of wastewater system components. Knowledge of potential hazards of the materials and equipment used in performing assigned tasks. Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in general maintenance, construction, and repair. Ability to understand and carry out specific oral or written instructions. Ability to work in unfavorable weather conditions for extended periods. Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines. Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills. Work is performed onsite. The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job. Essential Job Functions: Operates heavy and light equipment for installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing wastewater lines. Assists with installation of wastewater mains, installation of valves, wastewater taps and service lines, manholes, and pumps; work is performed in high-traffic areas. Performs inspection, condition assessments, minor maintenance, and repairs of wastewater pumps; writes work orders and assists in more complex maintenance and repairs. Speaks with customers and handles customer service issues and complaints; provides excellent customer service. Oversees the crew when the supervisor is unavailable; delegates work to the crew. Responds to emergency facility/field situations as required. Guides and assists during emergency situations. Troubleshoots system/equipment when there is an operational issue and gives guidance on corrective action to return system/equipment back to normal operations. Stocks, cleans and organizes truck and materials. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.
