Medication Technician (Med Tech) - PRN

Join our team and make a difference in the lives of seniors every day. We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medication Technician to safely administer medications and provide quality care to residents in an assisted living and/or memory care community.

Position Summary

The Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications as permitted by state regulations, maintaining accurate records, monitoring resident well-being, and assisting with daily care needs. This role works under the supervision of the Wellness Director and helps create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for residents.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Administration

  • Administer medications safely, accurately, and on schedule in accordance with state regulations and community policies.
  • Document medication administration and maintain accurate Medication Administration Records (MARs).
  • Verify resident identity before administering medications.
  • Report medication concerns, refusals, errors, or changes to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain security of medication carts, narcotics, and medication keys.
  • Complete narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift.

Resident Care

  • Observe and report changes in residents' physical, mental, or emotional condition.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:
    • Personal hygiene and grooming
    • Bathing and dressing
    • Ambulation and transfers
    • Toileting and incontinence care
    • Dining assistance and hydration support
  • Respond promptly to resident requests and emergency call systems.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment.

Communication & Documentation

  • Communicate resident updates and concerns during shift handoff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely resident documentation.
  • Collaborate professionally with nurses, physicians, hospice providers, home health agencies, laboratories, and family members.

Community Engagement

  • Encourage resident participation in social, recreational, and wellness activities.
  • Assist with group and one-on-one activities to promote engagement and quality of life.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all infection control, safety, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Report incidents, accidents, concerns, suspected abuse, or policy violations immediately.
  • Attend required training sessions, meetings, and continuing education programs.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a state-approved Medication Administration course or certification required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Medication Technician, Med Aide, or Certified Medication Aide.
  • Experience working with older adults.
  • Assisted Living, Memory Care, or Long-Term Care experience.
  • Knowledge of dementia and related conditions.
  • High school diploma or GED.
