Experienced Septic Service Technician β Summit Professional
Camano Island, WA Β· Full-time Β· $24β31/hr, placed by demonstration β on a five-tier ladder weβre building in the open.
Most companies in this trade pay $22β27 for showing up, and the raise conversation is a hallway negotiation. We pay to the top of the Washington market and past it β and the entire path is printed on one page. You place at Tier 2 ($24β27) or Tier 3 ($27β31, with specialty tags) by showing the work, not talking about it. The upper tiers ($31β38+, before adders) pay what this trade almost never pays, because the skills that earn them create value most companies can't deliver.
One thing, said plainly:Β these numbers are placed by demonstration, not by application. Your first weeks are the assessment β every skill you show, you're paid for; skills you can't yet show place you on the entry ladder instead. If you're not yet running diagnostics and repairs solo, ourΒ Septic Service TechnicianΒ posting ($19β23 to start, we pay you to learn) is your door β same ladder, same climb, honest starting camp.
You already know how to do this work. This posting is about whether you believe what we believe.
Here's the job, in plain terms
The homeowner is the hero of every job. They've got a problem under their feet they don't understand, and they're stressed about it. You're the guide β calm, clear, with a plan β who makes it right and makes it make sense.
You're responsible for the system β not just the visit. Anyone can close a service call. A Summit Professional thinks a step ahead: what the system needs to last, and what the family should know before a small thing becomes a big one.
Ask a Summit Professional what they do for a living, and they won't say "I pump tanks." They'll say: a house without a working septic system is just a campsite β I'm the person who keeps it a home. That's the answer. That's the work.
How we work β four things we don't bend on
- We don't sell, we serve β we give people a clear choice.Β You lay out the options β Economy, Mid-Range, Premium β with the straight truth. The customer makes the call that's right for their home and their budget. The choice is always theirs, and you're at peace whichever way they go.
- We work for a mission, not commission.Β No commission, no quotas pushing you to oversell a neighbor. Your pay climbs by proven skill, not by what you talk someone into.
- We earn the right to be recommended.Β One job, one customer at a time. A referral isn't asked for β it's earned by the work.
- We train for your property, not on it.Β Even experienced hands learn our way before they carry it alone β and help turn it into the standard as we build it.
The one thing we can't train: belief
We require every Summit Professional to actually believe in this work. Not perform it β believe it. A homeowner can tell the difference between someone reading a script and someone who means it. So can the person next to you on the climb.
We can teach the skill. We can't install the belief. You bring that part.
What you already do β and how we'll handle it
- PumpingΒ β solo, start to finish
- InspectionsΒ β complete, honest, documented
- DiagnosticsΒ β to root cause, not just symptoms: pumps, floats, transducers, headworks, risers, cleanouts
- RepairsΒ β done right the first time, callbacks near zero
We'll ask you to prove it, not tell us about it. And maybe you've never done any of it to our standard β that's expected, because the standard is ours. Scripts at every customer touchpoint. The report matches the driveway: same-day notes, photos, and a Quote on every job. That part we train, and it's where experienced techs surprise themselves.
How placement and pay work β no negotiation theater
- In your interview we hand you our Technician Levels sheet and ask you to place yourself: which boxes can you check today? For every box you claim, one question β "what would the job record show?"
- Your first weeks are an accelerated, assessment-based Base Camp.Β Every skill you demonstrate, you're paid for β placement by demonstration, not by resume or tenure. Ninety documented days confirms the tier.
- Skill tags add pay on top of every tierΒ β CDL, excavation, advanced treatment & testing, installation certification, high-strength waste, commercial systems, trainer.Β Each one: demonstrated, documented, sustained, paid. Adder amounts are set from the value each skill creates β weβll show you where they stand before you accept.
- Nobody here asks for a raise.Β They open the sheet, see which boxes are unchecked, and go check them. The scoreboard asks for them.
The honest part (so you can choose with your eyes open)
It's physical. Outdoors β rain, heat, cold. Some days you'll work on the part of a home no one wants to think about. And if you've been in this trade a while, hear this clearly: you'll be trained harder than anywhere you've been, held to a standard most companies won't set, and told the truth, plainly, when you miss it. Experience earns your placement β it doesn't exempt you from the Standard.
We're small, and we're building our systems right now β the training, the climb, the standards. You won't plug into a polished machine; you'll help build it. The standard you're held to will partly be one you helped write. If you need a finished playbook handed to you on day one, this isn't your mountain yet.
Most people won't choose this. We aren't built for most people.
Who a Summit Professional actually is
Forget the adjectives. Here is what it looks like in a real person. Read these and you'll know if it's you:
- You tell the homeowner the truth even when it costs a sale β and you're at peace with their choice.
- You do the job the same way whether or not anyone will ever check it β and you'd rather kill the cause of a problem than be thanked for patching it.
- When something goes wrong on your job, your first words are "That was me. I've got it."
- You write down what actually happened, even when a vaguer report would be easier.
- When someone shows you a better way, you do it that way on the very next job β not after the third reminder.
- When a teammate is buried and you've got room, you take part of the load before they ask. You don't leave a job β or a person β half-finished for the next climber.
It isn't about where you've worked. It's about how you show up.
Don't choose this ifβ¦
- You ease off when no one's watching.
- You hear a correction and defend instead of adjust.
- Ten years of experience feels like it should end the conversation about how to do the work.
- You'd rather close a big ticket than do right by the customer.
- "Good enough" is good enough for you.
No hard feelings. Better we both know now.
What's waiting if you choose it
- Placement at $24β31/hr in your first weeks by demonstration β and your pay climbs at every tier, earned by what you can prove, not how long you've been here.
- Full available benefits after 90 days β medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match.
- No ceiling. Base Camp β Tier 1 Β· Proving It β Tier 2 Β· Owns It β Tier 3 Β· Elevates It β Tier 4 Β· Multiplies It β Tier 5 Β· Elite. Lead jobs, train the next climber, build the system. Performance pay turns on as the company hits its targets; when we win, you win.
- A company that will never ask you to sell anything: we give people a clear choice.
- Steady, year-round work protecting the homes of our island.
The honest fine print
Valid driver's license and a record that lets you operate a company service vehicle (driving is part of the job). Able to do the physical, outdoor, hands-on work described above β lifting, digging, all weather. Willing to follow safety standards every time. We mean that: anyone here can stop an unsafe job, no permission needed, ever.
How to apply (5 minutes β and we read every one)
Two steps. Each one shows us something we can't fake-test for:
- Apply here in BambooHR.
- Two short written answers:
- A time you told a customer something true that cost you money.Β (This is how we see what you believe.)
- The most useful correction you've ever gotten β and what you changed because of it.Β (This is how we see whether experience made you better or just older.)
Want to jump to the front of the line?
This part is optional β skipping it won't count against you. But it's the single best way to stand out.
Send us a 30β60 second video:Β why this work, and why here?Β Record it on your phone β no script, no fancy setup. Attach it to your application, or paste a link if that's easier (Loom, unlisted YouTube, Google Drive). We're not grading the lighting. We're listening for what's real.
If you can talk for a minute about why you want this without a script, that tells us more than any resume line.
If the summit is yours, you already feel it. So will we.
Aim for the Summit.
