GENERAL SUMMARY
The Business Unit Controller manages accounting for three business units (two in Canada, one in Texas) and supports global consolidation of financial results, including preparation of financial reports. The role oversees day-to-day finance operations (month-end close, reporting, and forecasting) and serves as a trusted business partner to Operations, balancing speed in an entrepreneurial environment with strong internal controls and timely identification of risks and opportunities
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Controllership Function
- Manage accounting operations for three business units, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial records and reporting.
- Lead month-end close activities, including review/approval of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement support.
- Partner with business leaders to understand performance, investigate variances, and communicate drivers.
- Support global consolidation and assist with preparation of consolidated financial statements, including reconciliation between different ERP systems.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities in partnership with FP&A.
- Assist with audit and tax support and documentation.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and special projects as requested; backfill other accounting duties when necessary.
Finance Administration
- Maintain and improve accounting processes and internal controls; troubleshoot system-driven processes and implement best-practice, standardized procedures across business units.
- Support the company’s global credit card program, including reporting, policy adherence, and issue resolution.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to business staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

SKILLS
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; ability to clearly communicate complex accounting concepts to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on Excel.
- Understanding of GAAP and the ability to apply accounting guidance to real-world business scenarios.
- Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced, and growth-oriented environment; able to drive change with appropriate structure and follow-through.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, compliance, and deadlines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA preferred.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience preferred, including multi-entity or multi-location responsibility.
- Prior experience supporting month-end close, financial reporting, and audit and tax support required.
- People leadership experience (formal or informal) preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Hybrid role with semi-regular on-site expectations at global headquarters in Rockford, IL
- Ability to work flexible and occasionally extended hours as business needs require, including during month-end and year-end close.
- Regular collaboration across multiple locations and time zones (Canada, Texas, and Global Corporate functions).

The working conditions described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the principal duties and responsibilities of the job. The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing area which, under certain conditions, requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. The temperature of the primary work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Industrial lighting provided.
