Child Welfare MSW /BSW placement requirements:

  • Fall/ Spring placement 15-20 hours a week.
  • Must be able to start in the summer for training. One day in June, July, and August.
  • Must be available for group supervision, bi-weekly team meetings, and agency trainings.
  • Must be able to work one evening per week. 
  • Agency cars are available, but use of personal car may be necessary.
  • Must provide proof of current car insurance.
  • Must feel comfortable, after a training period, to supervise parent/child visits and intervene in the visit when necessary.
  • Must feel comfortable with in home family visits.
  • Pass criminal and CANTS (DCFS) background check.

  • DCFS policy and procedure.
  • Trauma and loss work with children.
  • Juvenile court, DCFS ACR and legal screening process, Facilitating a Child and Family Team Meeting.
  • How to document contact.
  • Developing a service plan and visitation plan.
  • Interview skills.
  • Mandated reporter training.
  • Trauma / loss training.
  • Foster parent recruitment.
  • Return home, adoption or guardianship process.
  • Culture, mission, and values of LSSI – Illinois
