Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Full Time

Starting Pay: $20.22/hour + Experience Pay + Shift Differentials + Overtime

Coastal Ambulance is hiring Florida-certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to join our Field Operations team in Brevard County.

EMT Pay

Starting rate: $20.22/hour

We recognize your experience. EMTs receive an additional 1% for each year of prior EMT experience, up to 10 years.

The typical annual base pay for a Coastal EMT is approximately $44,000–$49,100, before applicable shift differentials and additional overtime.

Shift Differentials:

• Weekday Overnight (11:00 PM–7:00 AM): +$4.00/hour
• Weekend Day: +$4.50/hour
• Weekend Overnight: +$5.00/hour
• Overtime: 1.5x regular rate (including shift differential) for hours over 40 per week

Schedule

This position works rotating 12-hour shifts in our 24/7/365 operation. Shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Rotating schedules may include alternating weekends and built-in overtime. An example of a typical schedule rotation is shown below"

What You'll Do at Coastal

Coastal Ambulance provides specialized ambulance transportation throughout Florida and beyond. Our EMTs and Paramedics work with hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout Brevard County, as well as specialty facilities across the state.

Our call volume includes:

• BLS and ALS interfacility transports
• Specialty Care Transport (SCT)
• Hospital-to-hospital transfers
• Pre-scheduled and same-day medical transports
• Critical care transports
• Emergency and non-emergency calls

Our Field Operations team includes experienced First Responders, EMTs, and Paramedics, including many long-term employees with decades of EMS experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As an EMT, you are responsible for providing Basic Life Support (BLS) medical care and transportation in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, protocols, and Coastal policies.

Responsibilities include:

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls calmly, efficiently, and promptly
• Provide Basic Life Support care on scene and during patient transport
• Assess patients and determine appropriate priorities for care
• Safely transport patients to appropriate receiving facilities
• Communicate effectively with patients, medical personnel, dispatch, and receiving facilities
• Complete accurate and timely Patient Care Reports (PCRs) and other required documentation
• Follow infection-control, bloodborne-pathogen, safety, and PPE requirements
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
• Ensure assigned vehicles are appropriately stocked and equipment is present and operational
• Operate ambulances and medical equipment safely and appropriately
• Support operations during emergencies, severe weather, disasters, or Mass Casualty Incidents (MCIs) as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Current State of Florida EMT certification
• Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
• Current Florida Driver's License with a driving record that meets company insurance requirements
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• EVOC/CEVO certification, or ability to obtain certification during training

Preferred:

• Six months of prior EMT experience

Physical & Work Requirements

This is an active patient-care position. EMTs must be able to perform the physical functions necessary to safely provide patient care and operate in the prehospital and medical transportation environment.

The position may require:

• Prolonged standing, sitting, and walking
• Frequent use of hands and fingers
• Climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crawling
• Frequent lifting and/or moving of 100+ pounds
• Lifting/moving patients weighing 250+ pounds with assistance
• Working outdoors and in varying weather conditions
• Exposure to bloodborne or airborne pathogens and infectious materials
• Use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Operation of ambulances, stretchers, medical equipment, computers/tablets, radios, and other equipment
• Working rotating days, nights, weekends, and holidays as operationally required
