Role Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, development, and manufacturing of process equipment and systems for modular, mobile gas-to-methanol chemical plants and related industrial systems. This role involves translating chemical process designs into fully detailed mechanical designs, creating 3D models, and overseeing the transition from prototypes to scalable, manufacturable products. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, expertise in mechanical assembly, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support, documentation, and design for manufacturing input to assist both the manufacturing and engineering teams.
  • Review mechanical and electrical system and sub-system designs to improve design for manufacturing and support manufacturing personnel with drawings, materials, procedures, and control of equipment and materials.
  • Design and develop process equipment including mechanical/structural components such as vessels, piping, and heat exchangers.
  • Create and review 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly instructions, and work closely with fabrication and assembly teams.
  • Translate P&IDs and process flow diagrams into efficient, repeatable fabrication and assembly workflows.
  • Drive process excellence by designing SOPs, work instructions, and assembly guides for technicians and contractors.
  • Specify and source tools, fixtures, and jigs to improve build accuracy, reduce cycle time, and support scalable manufacturing.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing defects or deviations.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and engineering standards such as ASME, NEC, and OSHA.
  • Coordinate factory acceptance testing, track components through their lifecycle, and collaborate with vendors to improve quality and reliability.
  • Work with leadership to define detailed product specifications and perform design trade-offs to balance cost and performance.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction through mass manufacturing (design for manufacturing) and standardization.
  • Provide technical mentorship and lead interdisciplinary collaboration across engineering, procurement, and production teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing engineering, preferably in process equipment or industrial systems.
  • Experience with construction, fabrication, and assembly of equipment and large-scale process equipment
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD.
  • Strong knowledge of process systems, mechanical codes, standards, and safety/performance specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, electrical integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to take concepts from design through pilot stages to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Experience with quality system implementation, root cause problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modular manufacturing and chemical processing system design.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing engineering, preferably in processing equipment or industrial systems.
  • Experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with an emphasis on design and manufacturing with hands-on involvement in shop floor production
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and data management tools like Autodesk Vault.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with experience creating drawings, documentation, work instructions, diagrams, and involvement drafting and developing manufacturing procedures.
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
