We are seeking a visionary Director, Field Operations to lead our transportation fleet and terminal operations across the US.

 

This role requires a safety-focused operational leader with deep expertise in fleet management, terminal operations, regulatory compliance, and technology-enabled performance improvement, including experience with fleet telematics platforms such as Samsara and a strong understanding of PSM and environmental compliance requirements.

This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while supporting exceptional service delivery to both internal and external customers.

 

Reporting to the VP, Primary Logistics, you will have the opportunity to shape operational strategy, optimize fleet and terminal performance, champion safety initiatives, and contribute to the future growth of our logistics network.

What you’ll do:

Build and Lead a Safety-First Culture

You will:

•    Champion compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

•    Lead initiatives that reduce incidents and strengthen operational safety performance.

•    Partner closely with Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) teams to implement innovative safety programs and share best practices across the organization.

•    Foster a culture where employees feel empowered, accountable, and committed to working safely every day.

Optimize Fleet Operations

You will lead the strategic and operational performance of our transportation fleet by:

•    Ensuring appropriate driver staffing levels to meet business and customer demands.

•    Driving utilization and productivity improvements across fleet operations.

•    Overseeing vehicle maintenance programs and regulatory compliance.

•    Identifying opportunities to improve equipment effectiveness and reduce operating costs.

•    Managing internal freight costing and rate structures to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.

Lead Terminal Operations Excellence

You will be accountable for the performance, maintenance, and compliance of terminal operations by:

•    Ensuring optimal staffing and operational readiness.

•    Maintaining compliance with all regulatory and safety requirements.

•    Overseeing preventative maintenance programs and asset management practices.

•    Ensuring maintenance activities are accurately tracked and recorded within preventative maintenance systems.

•    Driving operational efficiency while maintaining high service standards.

Support Growth & Continuous Improvement

Beyond daily operations, you will help shape the future of the business by:

•    Partnering with Sales, Supply, Logistics, Procurement, and other business teams to identify operational growth opportunities.

•    Supporting new facility and infrastructure projects.

•    Providing operational expertise to enhance terminal and logistics capabilities.

•    Leading continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen service, efficiency, and profitability.

In this role, success will be measured through:

•    Strong safety performance and regulatory compliance.

•    Reduced preventable incidents and motor vehicle events.

•    Achievement of driver safety score targets.

•    Improved truck utilization and operational efficiency.

•    Terminal loss reduction and cost management.

•    Effective capital utilization.

•    Consistent adherence to preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Reliable, high-quality service delivery across operations.

 

What you bring:

We're looking for a strategic operator and people leader who can balance big-picture thinking with hands-on execution.

You likely have:

•     7+ years Leadership experience within transportation, logistics, supply chain, field operations, terminal operations, or industrial operations.

•     Post-Secondary Education, or equivalent in certifications or certificate program in Business management, Transportation, Supply Management, Transportation Safety, Operations Management.

•     Strong knowledge of fleet management, transportation regulations, and operational compliance.

•     Demonstrated success leading frontline and supervisory teams.

•     Experience managing budgets, operational KPIs, and performance metrics.

•     Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

•     A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for operational excellence.

•     Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

•     Demonstrated experience utilizing Samsara or similar fleet telematics platforms to drive safety, compliance, driver performance, and operational efficiency.

•     Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and their application within regulated operational environments.

•     Strong knowledge of California emissions regulations and environmental compliance requirements is considered a strong asset.

•     Required: Legal Authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas now or in the future for this job opening.

 

The expected annual salary range for this role is $130,000 - $160,000 a year.
