Project Engineer I

Location: Rocklin, CA (Remote Eligible – U.S.-Based Candidates)

Position Summary

MARS Energy Solutions is seeking a Project Engineer I to support the design and execution of solar PV, BESS, and EV infrastructure projects. Reporting to a Senior Project Engineer and supporting the Project Manager, this role carries a genuine 50/50 split between design work and time in the field, performed with guidance and review. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Project Engineers split their time roughly evenly between design and field execution, reporting to a Senior Project Engineer in support of the Project Manager.

  • Support early-stage design β€” preliminary PV layouts and stringing concepts in Helioscope and AutoCAD β€” feeding the engineering team's basis of design
  • Produce CAD design work including line-side tap detail drawings, collaborating with the Engineering Director and field operations team on PE-stamped sets
  • Support drawing package revisions through design and construction to an approved-for-construction set
  • Process submittals and RFIs through Procore β€” no material installed without an approved submittal, no field change on a verbal approval
  • Support procurement accuracy and vendor coordination against the construction schedule
  • Provide technical support for utility interconnection and AHJ permitting, including technical responses and supporting the path to PTO
  • Support Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for outage and tie-in work
  • Conduct site visits to verify installation conforms to IFC drawings and support crews at key milestones
  • Support pre-energization documentation in adherence with the MARS Build Standards
  • Support commissioning β€” DC string testing, IR survey coordination, and deficiency tracking
  • Maintain as-built redlines in Procore and photograph concealed work prior to cover
  • Own project closeout coordination to the MARS β€œO&M Ready” standard, with full turnover documentation
  • Assist Business Development with pre-contract due diligence and site assessments

Experience & Education

  • 0–4 years in solar PV, construction, or a related engineering field; internship or academic project experience acceptable for entry-level applicants
  • Performs the responsibilities above with guidance from the Senior Project Engineer; independence grows with experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field, ABET accredited degree a plus.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Comfortable splitting time between design/office and active field work β€” not a pure desk job
  • Working knowledge of Helioscope, PVSyst, AutoCAD, and Procore
  • Understanding of NEC and solar PV components; California Electrical Code a plus
  • Able to read construction drawings, structural plans, and single-line diagrams
  • Understands that deviations require documented engineering disposition β€” verbal approvals do not count
  • Strong communication across clients, contractors, utilities, and AHJs; willing to stop work and escalate when the field conflicts with approved drawings

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Walk active sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent travel to project sites; work outdoors in varying conditions

Benefits & Perks

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Company-paid Life and AD&D Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)Β
  • Paid Company Holidays (x6)
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development
