OVERVIEW

Hendall is seeking an experienced Applications Programmer III specializing in Appian to design, develop, implement, administer, and maintain complex business process management applications supporting federal programs. This senior-level position will serve as both a lead Appian developer and Appian platform administrator, with responsibility for application development, integrations, platform configuration, performance, governance, and release management.

The successful candidate will combine advanced hands-on Appian development experience with strong software engineering practices and the ability to translate business and technical requirements into scalable solutions. This individual will lead technical design activities, troubleshoot complex application and platform issues, establish development standards, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced developers.

DUTIES

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain complex Appian applications, including process models, interfaces, records, data types, expressions, integrations, and reusable components
  • Administer the Appian platform, including environment configuration, user and group management, security administration, performance monitoring, platform health, and version upgrades
  • Lead technical design sessions with business, technical, and government stakeholders to translate functional requirements into scalable Appian solutions
  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations between Appian and external systems using REST and SOAP web services, Connected Systems, Integration objects, Appian Records, and relational databases
  • Establish and maintain Appian development standards, reusable components, coding practices, design patterns, and governance processes
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical direction, mentorship, and support to junior and mid-level Appian developers
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application defects, integration failures, performance bottlenecks, and platform issues
  • Support release management activities, including configuration management, environment promotion, deployment packages, production releases, validation, and rollback procedures
  • Monitor application and platform performance and recommend technical or configuration improvements
  • Develop and maintain application design documentation, system configuration documentation, administrative procedures, deployment materials, and other required technical documentation
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, product owners, government stakeholders, and development teams to plan Agile sprints, estimate level of effort, prioritize work, manage dependencies, and report progress
  • Support application modernization, platform enhancements, and continuous improvement activities as program requirements evolve
  • Work independently and collaboratively to resolve technical issues, meet project deadlines, and support high-quality application delivery

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • At least six (6) years of application development experience, including at least four (4) years of hands-on Appian development experience
  • Current Appian certification at any Appian certification tier or credential level
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing complex Appian applications using process models, interfaces, expressions, data types, records, and related Appian components
  • Demonstrated experience administering an Appian environment, including system configuration, user and group administration, security, platform health monitoring, and performance management
  • Experience developing integrations using REST and SOAP web services, SQL, Appian Integration objects, and Connected Systems
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL query development
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, application architecture, systems integration, troubleshooting, configuration management, and release management
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, make technical decisions, and manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical activities, conduct code reviews, and mentor less experienced developers
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, and technical stakeholders
  • Ability to satisfy federal background investigation and badging requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting federal government clients or working within a federal contracting environment
  • Experience working within Agile or Scrum software development environments
  • Experience with Appian Records, Sites, and Process Mining or Process HQ
  • Experience with relational database technologies such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL
  • Experience supporting Appian platform upgrades, environment migrations, production deployments, and release management
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, configuration management, version control, and automated software delivery practices
  • Working knowledge of Zero Trust principles and federal cybersecurity and compliance frameworks, including FedRAMP and NIST SP 800-53
  • Active or eligible for a public trust or security clearance, as required by the contract
