A Senior Optician is a licensed, highly experienced eyewear professional responsible for delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring the highest standards in optical services. Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Optical Expertise
- Guide patients through eyewear selection based on prescription requirements, facial features, lifestyle, and personal style.
- Interpret ophthalmic prescriptions and recommend appropriate lens designs, thicknesses, coatings, and specialty products.
- Perform precise optical measurements including pupillary distance, segment height, bridge width, and other fitting parameters.
- Ensure accurate frame fittings and adjustments to deliver optimal comfort, vision, and alignment.
- Educate patients on lens technologies, frame materials, coatings, and premium optical products.
Technical Skills & Repairs
- Adjust, repair, and troubleshoot eyeglasses using advanced optical tools and techniques.
- Perform minor repairs such as tightening screws, replacing nose pads, and realigning frames.
- Ensure accurate fabrication, verification, and quality control of all eyewear orders.
- Maintain high standards for optical product quality and service accuracy.
Order Management & Dispensing
- Submit, track, and manage eyewear orders with optical labs.
- Conduct thorough quality checks before dispensing glasses or contact lenses.
- Maintain accurate patient records, documentation, and order histories.
Patient Education
- Provide clear instructions on proper care, cleaning, storage, and handling of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Support patients in understanding product benefits, warranties, and long‑term care recommendations.
Inventory & Display Management
- Organize, restock, and maintain frame inventory and product displays.
- Oversee stock rotation, ordering, and product selection to ensure variety and availability.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing optical environment.
Insurance & Billing Support
- Verify vision and medical insurance benefits.
- Provide cost estimates and assist patients with eyewear billing.
- Ensure accurate documentation for claims processing and reimbursement.
Clinical & Administrative Collaboration
- Work closely with clinical teams to support coordinated, patient‑centered care.
- Communicate effectively with technicians, providers, vendors, labs, and administrative staff.
- Assist with insurance verification and billing workflows to ensure accurate claims submission.
Leadership & Operations
- Mentor, train, and support junior opticians and optical staff.
- Contribute to workflow optimization and uphold practice policies, compliance standards, and operational efficiency.
- Support daily optical operations to ensure a smooth, high‑quality patient experience.
Professional Development
- Stay current on eyewear trends, lens technologies, and new product offerings.
- Maintain and expand technical knowledge to support evolving patient needs and industry standards.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience
- 3–5 years of optical dispensing and sales experience.
- Experience working in an ophthalmology practice strongly preferred.
Technical & Administrative Skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in patient data entry and order coordination.
- Proficiency with EHR systems, practice management software, and optical ordering tools.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and industry standards for patient privacy and compliance.
Operational & Interpersonal Skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills, especially in adjusting schedules or resolving patient concerns.
- Clear, compassionate, and professional communication with patients and staff.
