Position Summary
At Procon, our CDL Drivers play a key role in keeping projects running safely and on schedule. This position is responsible for transporting equipment, materials, and specialty items to jobsites throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and surrounding states. Drivers work closely with the Specialty Group General Superintendent to coordinate timely deliveries while maintaining a strong focus on safety, equipment care, and DOT compliance.
This is primarily a local driving position with early morning start times and home nightly. Schedules can vary depending on deliveries, traffic, jobsite conditions, and occasional backhaul opportunities. Drivers who are dependable, safety-minded, flexible, and take pride in their equipment will be successful in this role.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Safely operate company trucks and trailers in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies
Transport equipment, materials, and supplies to and from jobsites and vendors
Coordinate deliveries and schedules with supervisors and field personnel
Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and loads
Properly load, unload, secure, and protect all cargo during transport
Inspect company-owned equipment prior to delivery to ensure it is job-ready
Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, and other required documentation
Monitor and maintain the condition and cleanliness of assigned trucks, trailers, tools, straps, chains, binders, and related equipment
Identify maintenance or repair needs and communicate them promptly
Assist with loading, unloading, and other assigned tasks as needed
Maintain professionalism and represent Procon positively when interacting with customers, vendors, and jobsite personnel
Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and DOT requirements
Qualifications and Skills
Valid CDL required
Clean driving record required
Previous CDL driving experience required
Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe load securement practices
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Good communication and problem-solving skills
Dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
Ability to adapt to changing schedules and delivery needs
Experience hauling equipment, materials, or construction-related loads preferred
Equipment operating experience preferred
Mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment concerns preferred
Work Environment and Schedule
Local and regional travel throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and surrounding states
Early morning start times are common
Drivers are typically home nightly
Occasional extended days may occur depending on delivery schedules, traffic conditions, or backhaul opportunities
Work is performed in varying weather and jobsite conditions
Physical Requirements
Ability to climb, bend, lift, and secure loads
Ability to lift and move materials and equipment as needed
Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions
Ability to safely enter and exit trucks, trailers, and equipment multiple times throughout the day
Pay and Benefits
- $0.60 per mile for driving time
- $25.00–$30.00 per hour for non-driving/shop time, depending on experience and qualifications
