Position Purpose
The Pharm.D. is responsible for providing comprehensive pharmacy services, including medication dispensing, clinical consultation, medication management, patient education, and collaboration with medical providers to promote safe, effective, and appropriate medication use. The Pharm.D. provides clinical oversight and guidance to pharmacy staff, ensures compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, supports quality improvement initiatives, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Attendance during normal work hours is an essential function of the job to ensure work goals are met and patients are appropriately served.
- Dispense medications safely and accurately by reviewing and evaluating prescriptions, patient profiles, medication histories, allergies, drug interactions, contraindications, and other relevant clinical information.
- Provide medication counseling and education to patients, including appropriate administration, potential side effects, drug interactions, adherence, and consequences of improper medication use.
- Provide clinical consultation and medication-related recommendations to physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Monitor and evaluate medication therapy to identify potential drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, adverse effects, and opportunities to optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide guidance, direction, and clinical oversight to Pharmacy Technicians and other pharmacy staff.
- Manage pharmacy inventory to ensure appropriate medication availability while minimizing waste and expired medications.
- Assist with pharmacy purchasing and procurement activities and support compliance with applicable 340B program requirements.
- Work collaboratively with administration and prescribing practitioners to support coordinated, high-quality patient care.
- Ensure billing, remittance, prescription claims, and inventory control records are completed accurately and timely.
- Review and address prescription insurance claim rejections, rebills, adjustments, and other reimbursement issues as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable professional standards, organizational policies, and state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Manage prescription returns, recalls, credits, and medication destruction in accordance with established policies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and recordkeeping for prescriptions, controlled substances, medication dispensing, billing, and other pharmacy-related activities.
- Assist with the development, implementation, analysis, and monitoring of clinical performance measures, quality improvement activities, audits, and medication-related initiatives.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care activities and provide pharmacy expertise to support patient care and organizational initiatives.
- Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly pharmacy reports as required.
- Maintain current knowledge of medications, pharmacy practice standards, clinical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in pharmacy practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
- Current, unrestricted North Carolina pharmacist license.
- One to three years of experience in community health, or clinical pharmacy setting preferred.
- Experience providing medication counseling, medication therapy management, and clinical consultation preferred.
- Experience working collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals preferred.
- Knowledge of pharmacy purchasing procurement, inventory management, and 340B regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and North Carolina pharmacy laws, regulations, and professional standards.
- Strong understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and patient communication skills.
- Strong clinical, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Experience analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, electronic health records, and other applicable pharmacy technology preferred.
Working Environment
No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate such as in a typical office.
