Position Summary
The Optician at Four Rivers Community Health Center plays a key role in providing comprehensive, compassionate, and accessible vision services to our patients. This position supports our mission to improve the health and wellness of the communities we serve by helping patients select, fit, and maintain eyewear that meets their visual and financial needs. The Optician ensures a welcoming experience for every patient while working closely with the Optometrist, medical staff, and front office team to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
路 Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses that align with prescription requirements, lifestyle needs, and budget.
路 Take accurate optical measurements including pupillary distance, optical center, and segment height.
路 Fit, adjust, and repair eyeglasses and optical devices to ensure optimal comfort and vision correction.
路 Process and verify eyeglass orders with optical laboratories; inspect finished eyewear for quality and accuracy.
路 Educate patients on lens care, maintenance, and warranty options.
路 Maintain frame displays, organize optical inventory, and manage product ordering within budget guidelines.
路 Ensure documentation and patient communication comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and FQHC standards.
路 Support the Optometrist with patient pre-testing, scheduling, and general clinic flow as needed.
路 Participate in community outreach, vision screenings, and events that promote access to care.
路 Contribute to a positive, team-based environment that reflects the mission, vision, and values of Four Rivers Community Health Center.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
路 High school diploma or equivalent required.
路 Certification or licensure as an Optician (ABO or state certification) preferred.
路 Minimum one year of experience in an optical, optometric, or healthcare setting required.
路 Previous experience in a community health center or FQHC strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
路 Strong customer service and communication skills with an empathetic, patient-focused approach.
路 Working knowledge of lens materials, coatings, and optical products.
路 Ability to prioritize, multitask, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
路 Proficiency in EHR and optical ordering systems.
