System Architect | Dashboarding and Metrics SME


Overview:
Support the systems and infrastructure behind USGS's national geospatial mission through dashboard development, monitoring, metrics, and automation. As part of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC), this position helps maintain the technical environments that support trusted geospatial data, services, and products used across the Nation.

As a System Architect focused on Dashboarding and Metrics, you will work at the intersection of systems administration, infrastructure monitoring, reporting, and automation. You will develop and manage dashboards and reporting solutions that turn system and infrastructure data into clear, actionable insights, helping teams monitor performance, identify issues, and maintain operational visibility. You will also support the automation and management of Linux and Windows environments, helping streamline recurring processes, improve system reliability, and strengthen the overall efficiency of the infrastructure.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience administering Linux and Windows operating systems in enterprise environments
  • Experience developing and managing dashboards, reports, and metrics using enterprise monitoring and visualization platforms to collect, analyze, and present system and infrastructure performance data and operational health
  • Experience with scripting and automation to streamline system administration, configuration management, monitoring, or other recurring infrastructure processes
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Powershell, Puppet, or similar technologies
  • Experience supporting virtualized infrastructure, including VMware, KVM, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability technologies such as Grafana, Zabbix Prometheus, Alloy, InfluxDB, or comparable tools
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to identify system issues, analyze operational data, develop practical solutions, and clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations to team members and stakeholders
