We are looking for a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to provide hands-on engineering design and technical ownership for healthcare, veterinary, commercial, and public-sector building projects within a full-service architecture and planning environment. This is an engineering execution role, not a project management position, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in HVAC, mechanical, or broader MEP building systems. AlphaHire is recruiting on behalf of a client delivering complex building projects from planning and design through construction documentation and construction administration. The engineer will be responsible for producing and reviewing technically sound designs while supporting projects through construction and closeout.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee engineering designs for healthcare, veterinary, commercial, municipal, and other building projects
  • Design and evaluate HVAC, mechanical, and related MEP building systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment selections, and construction documents
  • Provide PE-level technical oversight and professional engineering judgment throughout design and construction
  • Collaborate directly with architects and other engineering disciplines to integrate building systems into coordinated project designs
  • Review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and other technical documentation during construction administration
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions, verify construction progress, and address field-related engineering issues
  • Identify technical and constructability issues and develop practical engineering solutions that support project requirements
  • Support projects through final inspections, punch lists, owner training, and closeout documentation as needed
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience, with 10+ years strongly preferred
  • HVAC, mechanical, or MEP engineering experience strongly preferred
  • Experience designing engineering systems for commercial, healthcare, institutional, veterinary, municipal, or similar building projects preferred
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, construction documents, engineering calculations, specifications, and applicable codes
  • Ability to independently develop, review, and take technical ownership of engineering designs
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required
  • Candidates must have hands-on engineering/design experience; project management experience without direct technical engineering experience will not be sufficient
  • Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, and other company-sponsored programs.
