Job Description:
Pitney Bowes is hiring for a Lead CDL A Truck Driver for our Romulus, MI facility.Â
Join our team and earn $30.00 - $35.00 per hour!Â
Work Shift:Â 7am- 4pm Monday - Friday

You will:Â
- Communicate with the Transportation Supervisor or Manager and the Operations Team regarding any special, late or missing pickups, and forward the information to the driversÂ
- Coordinate with production to ensure the mail is dispatched on time and ensure that all transportation tasks are completedÂ
- Review pick up slips for USPS supplies and communicate supply requests to the drivers; verify physical container counts to accompanying customer pick up slipsÂ
- Inspect assigned vehicle per the PBPS pre-trip inspection guidelines and procedures daily, and report any defective findings to the Transportation Supervisor to be fixed immediatelyÂ
- Recommend measures to improve the performance of the transportation departmentÂ
- Ensure the mail is reviewed for proper dates, presort slugs and a pickup slip are attached with each order prior to loading on the truckÂ
- Ensure all drivers are compliant with DOT regulations; assist in maintaining DOT filesÂ
- Maintain a daily vehicle inspection reportÂ
- Maintain a daily driver’s log or route sheet for mileage and cargoÂ
- Ensure USPS equipment is used only for the movement of “Live” mailÂ
- Return client damaged or undeliverable mail, following internal handling procedures for damaged secured mailÂ
- Use all required cell phone applicationsÂ
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle assignedÂ
- Assist in Quality Control or Barcode department between assigned pickupsÂ
- Fill in for drivers on any shift on any day of the week with little or no prior noticeÂ
- Keep work area clean by ensuring mail bins are under machines or in APC’s, plastic straps are off floor to prevent possible tripping hazards, and sweeping the floors between assigned pickups or deliveries, and all other duties as assignedÂ
- Demonstrate safety and security precautions and follow company policiesÂ
- Regular scheduled attendanceÂ
As a Lead Driver, you have:Â
- Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license in state where driver resides (CDL Class A) and meet applicable DOT requirements for CDLÂ
- Minimum of six months verifiable experience driving a tractor trailer (semi) truck with safe driving recordÂ
- Minimum age, 21Â
- Ability to drive any company vehicleÂ
- Ability to operate a vehicle in compliance with Hours of Service regulations and company hours-worked programÂ
- Ability to maintain a safe, courteous driving recordÂ
- Ability to work with minimum supervisionÂ
- Knowledge of USPS regulations and mailing standardsÂ
- Basic understanding of production processes and mailing separationsÂ
- Ability to prepare reports and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and employees in a professional and courteous mannerÂ
- Ability to communicate with Center Receiving any mail concerns such as missing pick up slips, incorrect documented container count, or any other quality concerns notedÂ
- Ability to understand and execute all driver quality procedures outlined in the TQM programÂ
- Ability to read a map and understand directionsÂ
- Must have the ability to work mandatory overtime that may include weekends, holidays and or a different shift with little or no advance noticeÂ
- Ability to maintain delivery and pick up schedules, meeting deadlinesÂ
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished orally or in writingÂ
- Ability to solve basic problems that arise in the transportation environmentÂ
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodationsÂ
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and recordsÂ
