MAIN FUNCTION: It is the responsibility of the Lifeguard Attendant to ensure the health and safety of the patrons in the Lap Pool, Therapy Pool and Spa, as well as the aquatic deck. The Lifeguard must be fluent in the Emergency Response Plan of the center and able to execute those procedures. In addition, the Lifeguard will be asked to enforce the pool rules on a consistent basis.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

Ensure the health and safety of the patrons in the Lap Pool, Therapy Pool, Spa, as well as the Aquatic Decks as per department polices and American Red Cross guidelines.

Execute efficient and appropriate emergency response when needed.

Enforce pool rules/regulations in a respectful, fair, manner and educate on the rationale for the rules when needed.

Assist patrons as needed, only without compromising the safety of others using the pool(s) and spa.

Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth in the Aquatics Staff Manual

Lifeguard should be clean and attired with issued guard suit, hip pack, tank top, whistle and name tag.
Administrative
-
Responsible for the upkeep of all aquatics equipment to include general preventative maintenance and requesting service in a timely fashion.

Maintain safe environment for members and clients of the center.

Routinely complete the department’s daily task check sheet
-
Attend required staff/evaluation meetings as requested.

Arrive at least 5 minutes early for assigned shift and cover all assigned hours.

If unable to work, lifeguard is responsible for finding and approved substitute.

Maintain appropriate level of fitness to efficiently perform all job tasks. Swimming 500 yards/wk is required.

Attend to the cleanliness of the pool areas and its equipment.

Proficient with all current facility policies and procedures and ensures all operations and practices of the department satisfy those policies and procedures.

Qualifications
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
- Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
- Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
- Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
- Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
- Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
- Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
- Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at Lake Nona Performance Club to determine any potential dangers or hazards
- Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions
- Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety
- Knowledge of on-site Lake Nona Performance Club protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
- Excellent interpersonal skills needed for exemplary customer service; outgoing, friendly, and compassionate.
MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:
- Pass a preliminary CPR and swimming test
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid
- Current CPR/AED Certification for the Professional Rescuer through the ARC
- High School Diploma or GED
