What does a Utility Operator I do?

As a Utility Operator I with the City of Richmond, you will be responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of various utility systems. Your tasks will include conducting routine inspections and testing of water distribution and wastewater systems to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. You will operate and maintain equipment and machinery, perform troubleshooting and repairs as needed, and assist in emergency response activities.

Additionally, you will assist the work Crews in all activities involved in the maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and installation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems, as well as any repairs. You will document daily activities, report any irregularities or maintenance needs, and collaborate closely with team members to address customer inquiries and concerns. Your commitment to integrity and safety will be fundamental in executing your responsibilities, contributing to the overall reliability of city utilities.

Required to work as an essential employee before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.
