Position Overview:

Performs advanced level neurodiagnostic procedures for routine and multi-modality intraoperative neuromonitoring. Provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedures. Performs all technical aspects involved in all aspects of intra-operative monitoring including but not limited to: electroencephalogram (EEG), evoked potential, motor mapping, and transcranial motor evoked potential (TcMEP) studies. Provides information to patients regarding neuromonitoring to ensure understanding and minimize anxiety. Abstracts relevant information to clinical management and medical staff of all pertinent information and changes to ensure the highest quality of care to patients. Provides technical neuromonitoring to the departments involved in neurosurgery, vascular surgery, spine surgery, trauma and neuroradiology.

EDUCATION:

Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma

HS Diploma or GED

Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program

OR Associate’s degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology, Electroneurodiagnostic Technology, or a related health science field
 

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

Appropriate certification or registration required depending on modality performed:

R.EEG.T – Registered EEG Technologist (ABRET) if performing EEGs

CNIM – Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (ABRET) required if performing IONM procedures

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

3 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

In-depth knowledge of neurodiagnostic services, mechanics and equipment. Basic functional neuroanatomy and neurophysiology relevant to EEG, EP, and/or IONM.

Understands the fundamental concepts of:
• American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) Guidelines
• Surgical Environment
a. Surgical procedures
b. Instrumentation
c. Sterile field: preparing and maintaining
d. Pharmacology: Anti-neuroleptic and Anesthetic Physiological Effects on Hemodynamics
e. Special Considerations/Contraindications
• Neuroanatomy
• Neurological Disorders
• Rhythm Analysis / Seizure Activity Recognition/Artifact Identification
• Medical/EP/EEG Terminology
• Diagnostic Procedures, such as Intracarotid Sodium Amobarbital Procedure (WADA), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Angiogram, Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
• Invasive and Non-Invasive Electrode Application/Connection Techniques
• Patient Safety/Infection Control / National Patient Safety Goals

Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Knowledge of electrographic correlates of clinical conditions such as generalized tonic-clonic seizures, complex partian seizures, and nonepileptic events.

Knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations in EEG, basic electricity and electronic concepts of EEG equipment, as well as anatomical correlation of EEG waveforms.

Capable of interpreting and evaluating EEG test results as well as a basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and medical terminology.

Possess well developed written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.

Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline.

Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
