Position Overview:

The Team Lead is a working leader responsible for supporting daily production while helping transition the shop floor toward self-directed work teams. This role provides on-the-floor leadership within assigned work cells, ensuring adherence to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP) standards. The Team Lead supports production flow, responds quickly to operational issues, mentors team members, and ensures compliance with standard work, safety requirements, and quality processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Support

    • Serve as a working lead while actively supporting production activities.
    • Assist work cells that are behind TAKT time to maintain production flow.
    • Provide cross-trained coverage for absenteeism and PTO gaps.

Rapid Response to Production Issues

  • Act as the first point of contact for production stoppages.
  • Participate in immediate issue investigation and containment.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to supervisors and engineering as required.
  • Support Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts to prevent recurrence.

Process Ownership

Maintain daily Leader Standard Work (LSW) including:

  • 5S audits
  • Work Order and process audits
  • Safety walk enforcement
  • Quality oversight and spot checks

Ensure completion and accuracy of:

  • SQDCP board updates
  • Safety and FOD walk scorecards
  • Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules
  • Training matrix updates

Team Leadership

  • Mentor operators and promote adherence to work instructions and standard processes.
  • Support employee engagement and development of high-potential team members.
  • Encourage team ownership of SQDCP performance metrics.

Continuous Improvement & Equipment Readiness

  • Participate in daily SQDCP meetings and improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with establishing baseline KPIs and operational metrics.
  • Support development of preventive maintenance plans and spare parts lists with maintenance personnel.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ experience in precision manufacturing or aircraft/engine assembly
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
  • Fully trained and qualified in primary production role
  • Mentor team members and encourage adherence to work instructions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving efforts.
  • Positive influence among peers
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Interest in leadership and continuous improvement
  • Ability to remain calm and organized during production challenges
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams
  • Due to the nature of PBS Aerospace’s business as a defense contractor, this position is limited to U.S. citizens, as defined under applicable federal regulations.

 

Work Environment

  • Typically, in a manufacturing facility the environment can be noisy and requires the use of protective gear.
  • The role may involve standing, walking, and lifting, and can be physically demanding.
  • Able to lift to 50 pounds. 
  • May require schedule flexibility to support operational needs
