The Role:   The Vice President of Operational Risk Management is a senior executive responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the organization's EHS strategy, programs, and culture. This role ensures full regulatory compliance, drives continuous improvement in safety performance, minimizes environmental impact, and embeds a proactive safety culture across all business units, facilities, and operations. The VP serves as the organization's principal authority on environmental, health, and safety matters and partners closely with executive leadership, operations, legal, and HR to protect employees, communities, and the company's license to operate. Additionally, this role is responsible for developing and leading the organization's sourcing and procurement strategy. This role drives cost savings, supplier performance, risk management, and process efficiency across direct and indirect spending categories. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership • Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-year EHS strategy aligned with corporate goals, growth plans, and risk tolerance. • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, advising the CEOs, COO, and Board of Directors on EHS risk, performance, and investment priorities. • Set enterprise-wide EHS policies, standards, and key performance indicators (KPIs); report performance regularly to executive leadership and the Board. • Anticipate and respond to evolving regulatory, technological, and industry trends affecting EHS risk. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other equivalent standards). • Oversee permitting, reporting, and regulatory relationships with agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and other relevant bodies. • Lead enterprise risk assessments, hazard analyses, and audits; maintain a robust corrective and preventive action (CAPA) process. • Own incident investigation protocols, root cause analysis, and lesson-learned processes for injuries, illnesses, near-misses, and environmental releases. • Ensure adequate emergency preparedness, business continuity, and crisis response plans are in place and regularly tested. Program Development & Operations • Design, implement, and continuously improve EHS management systems across all sites and business units. • Establish and manage programs covering industrial hygiene, process safety, ergonomics, contractor safety, chemical management, waste management, air/water quality, and sustainability initiatives. • Partner with Operations to integrate EHS requirements into facility design, capital projects, and process changes. • Manage EHS budget, staffing, and resource allocation across the organization. Culture & Training • Champion a proactive, employee-driven safety culture, promoting accountability and engagement at every level of the organization. • Develop and oversee company-wide EHS training curricula, certifications, and competency programs. • Lead behavior-based safety programs and employee recognition initiatives that reinforce safe practices. People Leadership • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing EHS team. • Establish clear accountability structures and performance metrics for EHS staff across the organization. • Foster cross-functional collaboration with Operations, HR, Legal, Facilities, and Engineering leadership. Sustainability & External Relations • Guide corporate sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), and carbon-reduction initiatives in partnership with relevant stakeholders. • Represent the company with regulators, industry associations, auditors, insurers, and community stakeholders. • Support ESG reporting, sustainability disclosures, and investor communications related to EHS performance. Procurement • Develop and execute a multi-year procurement and sourcing strategy aligned with corporate goals, growth plans, and total cost of ownership objectives. • Set enterprise-wide procurement policies, standards, and key performance indicators (KPIs); report performance regularly to executive leadership. • Anticipate and respond to market trends, commodity price volatility, and supply chain disruptions. • Own strategic sourcing across direct materials, indirect goods and services, capital equipment, and professional services. • Establish and lead supplier relationship management (SRM) programs, including performance scorecards, business reviews, and continuous improvement plans. • Lead category strategy development, RFP/RFQ processes, competitive bidding, and contract negotiations to optimize cost, quality, and service levels. • Build and maintain a category management framework that balances cost savings, innovation, and supply assurance. • Identify and deliver measurable cost-savings and cost-avoidance targets year over year.      QualificationsKey Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field required; Master's degree preferred. • 15+ years of progressive EHS experience, including 7+ years in senior leadership roles overseeing multi-site operations. • Demonstrated experience in a regulated, high-hazard industry (e.g., manufacturing, energy, construction, chemicals, logistics, or healthcare) preferred. • Proven track record of building and scaling EHS programs within a growing or complex organization. • 5+ years procurement strategy experience.   Certifications (Preferred) • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) • OSHA 30-Hour Certification • Lead Auditor certification for ISO 14001 / ISO 45001   Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and enforcement practices. • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills; comfort with EHS management software and reporting systems. • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills; able to influence the executive and Board level. • Experience managing budgets, capital projects, and cross-functional teams. • Skilled in crisis management, incident command, and regulatory investigations. • Ability to travel to company facilities as needed (estimated: 30-40% travel).   Core Competencies • Strategic and systems thinking • Executive presence and communication • Regulatory and technical expertise • Change management and culture-building • Data analysis and performance measurement • Crisis leadership and decision-making under pressure Other Duties: Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
