POSITION SUMMARYÂ Â
We are seeking an experienced Machinist to support our new fabrication and rebuild shop. The ideal candidate will have experience operating and programming both CNC and manual machine tools to manufacture, repair, and restore precision components for mining and heavy equipment. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to interpret engineering drawings, and a commitment to producing high-quality work while supporting fabrication, welding, and mechanical repair operations. Candidates with both machining and welding experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
•   Perform precision machining operations using a variety of CNC and manual machine tools, including lathes, mills, drill presses, and horizontal boring mills.
•   Program, set up, and operate machining equipment to manufacture new components and rebuild worn or damaged mining equipment.
•   Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and verbal instructions to determine machining requirements and tolerances.
•   Measure, inspect, and verify finished parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
•   Select, install, and maintain appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, work-holding devices, and machining parameters for each operation.
•   Determine tooling requirements and procure or recommend the appropriate tooling necessary to complete machining projects efficiently.
•   Perform precision repairs to shafts, bores, pins, bushings, housings, and other heavy equipment components.
•   Set up and operate horizontal boring mills and other large-capacity machining equipment.
•   Perform portable line boring operations in the field or shop when required.
•   Assist in the fabrication, modification, and rebuilding of heavy mining equipment and structural components.
•   Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and material-handling equipment to move large workpieces.
•   Perform routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting on machine tools to ensure safe and reliable operation.
•   Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while complying with all company safety policies and applicable MSHA requirements.
•   Collaborate with welding, fabrication, and mechanical personnel to support shop operations and complete projects efficiently.
•   Adapt to changing production schedules and operational priorities while maintaining quality workmanship and meeting project deadlines.
•   Must be able to perform all assigned work in compliance with applicable MSHA regulations, company policies, and safe work practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSÂ
To perform the essential functions of this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
•   Minimum of 3 years of machining experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, heavy equipment, or industrial repair environment.
•   Proficiency operating and setting up CNC and manual machining equipment.
•   Experience programming CNC machining equipment.
•   Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and precision measuring instruments.
•   Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling selection, cutting speeds, feeds, and materials.
•   Experience machining large steel components and heavy equipment parts to close tolerances.
•   Ability to independently set up, troubleshoot, and complete machining projects with minimal supervision.
•   Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
•   Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and other shop equipment.
•   Ability to perform all assigned work in compliance with applicable MSHA regulations, company policies, and safe work practices.
•   Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to changing production schedules based on operational needs.
•   Willingness to assist other departments, including fabrication and mechanical repair, to support shop operations and project completion.
•   Strong commitment to quality workmanship, continuous improvement, and workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications:Â
•   Cross-functional experience in both machining and structural welding is preferred, as this position supports fabrication, equipment rebuilds, and repair operations.
•   Experience machining and rebuilding mining or heavy construction equipment.
•   Experience operating and setting up horizontal boring mills.
•   Experience using portable line boring equipment
•   Familiarity with welding, fabrication, and heavy equipment repair processes.
•   Experience working in a high-production manufacturing or rebuild environment.
•   Technical training or apprenticeship in machining, tool and die, or a related trade.
REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
•   Experience in heavy equipment manufacturing, mining equipment repair, or industrial steel fabrication.
•   Experience working in a high-production environment.
•   Experience operating overhead cranes and other shop material-handling equipment.
•   Strong mechanical aptitude and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Physical:
•   Walking, standing, and seating for extended periods of time.
•   Lifting, bending and stooping occasionally.  Ability to lift above shoulder and/or carry over 60 pounds.Â
•   Ability to push and/or pull over 60 pounds.
•   Ability to carry on conversations (speaking and hearing) for extended periods of time.
•   Ability to safely operate around moving equipment and hazardous situations.
•   Ability to climb to places over 30ft high
•   Ability to wear safety equipment such as hearing /eye protection, steel-toed boots, and hardhats.
Mental: Â
•   Fast-paced environment – must be able to handle high-stress situations and adapt to change.
•   Due to the nature of working around other employees and other schedules, patience and perseverance are excellent attributes in this position.
•   Must be able to prioritize and organize time well.
