Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sentinel (GBSD) FST (Flight Systems Team) is seeking to add a Principal/Sr. Principal Fluid Dynamics Analyst MS&A Modelling and Simulation Engineer located in either Manhattan Beach, California or Roy, UT and may offer a competitive relocation package. As a FST (Flight Systems Team) fluid dynamics analyst, you will analyze, research, and develop vehicle environments (aerodynamic loads and shears, acoustics, heating, etc.) during missile fly-out and through all stages of flight. Tasks may also include supporting design of heat shield and vehicle outer mold line to optimize flight performance as well as analysis of internal flows (e.g. propulsion). Analyses will be performed utilizing hand calculations, low fidelity tools, and/or high fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) packages such as CFD++, StarCCM+ or Fluent as well as separate meshing tools such as Pointwise as appropriate. Assist the team in aero table generation, monte carlo runs, and general aero development. When computational fluid dynamics analyses are appropriate, critical thinking skills will be required to develop an analysis capturing the appropriate fluid flow phenomenon as well as understanding the results when post processing the solution. Accepted applicant will take the analyses from the beginning to end, including CAD preparation, meshing, CFD setup, case submission and tracking, post-processing and documentation. Analyses could include sub-sonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flow regimes as well as exo-atmospheric conditions. Due to the complex nature of the systems analyzed, the position requires working closely with multiple engineering disciplines including but not limited to Structural Dynamics, Guidance Navigation and Control Engineering, System Engineering, and Mechanical Design to achieve program objectives in a timely manner. Position Benefits include Medical, Dental & Vision coverage, 401k, Educational Assistance, Life Insurance, Employee Assistance Programs & Work/Life Solutions, Paid Time Off, Health & Wellness Resources, Employee Discounts. This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80 allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Job Qualifications include Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and 8 years of experience, or 6 years of experience with a Master's degree; 4 years of experience with PHD. Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time. Experience with data analysis in Python or MATLAB, modeling, simulation, and analysis or software development, and using Grid Generation tools and CFD software tools to simulate external fluid flows and design for optimum flow performance. Preferred qualifications include Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline, active US DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance, experience in vehicle aerodynamic coefficient generation and monte carlo methods, experience performing computational fluid dynamics analyses including designing to optimize flight performance, and experience in Linux environments.
