MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST LEAD - SCHOOL OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

Scope of Work

Full-time Faculty position for the School of Medical Laboratory Science program educational program. Instructs, supervises and evaluates MLS students. Reports to the Education Programs Manager (aka MLS Program Director).

Major responsibilities include:

Oversee the delivery of the Chemistry (and Blood Bank) lecture series. Oversee the delivery of the Chemistry/Immunology clinical laboratory rotation.

Major qualifications include:

Baccalaureate degree (BS) and graduate of a NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology (MT) or Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program. Certification in Medical Laboratory Science either as MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP). 3 years of clinical laboratory work experience (5 years or more preferred). MLS student teaching experience (laboratory and/or lecture instruction). Expert in Microsoft Office 365 applications including Word, Excel, Teams and Forms.

Essential Duties:    

Responsible for developing curriculum content, delivering didactic and bench instruction, writing examinations, grading and performance evaluation of students in the Medical Laboratory Science Program. Develops theory lecture schedule, syllabus (goals, competencies, objectives, and expectations), instructional activities and assessments (assignments/exams/performance evaluations) for the respective discipline. Develops clinical laboratory rotation schedule, syllabus (rotation goals, competencies, objectives, and expectations), instructional activities and assessments (assignments/exams/performance evaluations) for the respective discipline. Evaluates student academic, technical and clinical performance.  Counsels students related to their program, national certification and job pursuit. Assists and advises students on education and research project required by the program. Assists in interviewing candidates, selecting students, and evaluating current student academic and technical performance. Participates in student recruitment and student grievance procedures, as needed. Participates in: Faculty Meetings with Program Director Admission Committee Advisory Committee Program quality improvement via review of student evaluations, annual course assessment, course modifications and effectiveness review, graduate certification outcomes, etc. Data collection for Quarterly Clinical Time Studies and Annual Teaching Hour Report NAACLS Accreditation Self-Study and Site Visit Cost effectiveness: Efficient use of time in completing tasks accurately and timely. Mindful of appropriate use of laboratory funds through purchase requests and the observance of wasteful use of supplies.

Standard Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the baccalaureate degree. Completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
  • A minimum of 2 years direct technical experience is required having worked within an accredited, licensed laboratory where at least 2 years of which include specific experience in the laboratory discipline being applied for.
  • Completion of an accredited clinical internship or equivalent experience/training as required by the Board of Registry.
  • Must be certified per policy; specialty certification in appropriate discipline prefer -ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCP)CM (Effective October 23, 2009) See Notes below. OR
  • ASCP Medical Laboratory Technician - MLT(ASCP)
  • Other Qualifications: Problem solving ability, organizational and interpersonal skills.  Demonstrates sincere interest in training students and continuing education activities in higher education methodologies and pedagogy.
