Sales Associate - Garden Center

Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Retail Garden Center Sales Associate to join our team. As a Sales Associate, you will assist customers in selecting plants, gardening tools, and supplies, offering expert advice, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a clean and organized sales floor, providing product recommendations, and supporting seasonal sales initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Service:

  • Greet customers as they enter the store and offer assistance with product selection.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations on gardening, plants, soil, fertilizers, and tools.
  • Help customers with product questions and ensure they understand proper care and maintenance.

• Sales Support:

  • Assist customers in finding products, upsell related items, and inform them about sales or promotions.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using POS systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of current inventory and inform customers about availability and stock levels.

• Product Knowledge:

  • Stay updated on seasonal plant varieties, trends in gardening products, and best practices in plant care.
  • Learn and communicate the benefits of eco-friendly products, gardening solutions, and sustainable practices.

• Merchandising & Stocking:

  • Ensure that shelves, displays, and gardening areas are stocked, neat, and visually appealing.
  • Assist in unloading shipments and stocking new inventory as it arrives.
  • Regularly inspect plants and products for quality and ensure they are properly cared for.

• Store Maintenance:

  • Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the store, including the exterior and gardening areas.
  • Follow all safety guidelines for handling plants, tools, and chemicals.

• Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Work closely with team members to meet store goals and objectives.
  • Assist in setting up seasonal displays and promotions.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

• Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Previous experience in retail, gardening, or horticulture is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong interest or passion for plants, gardening, or landscaping is preferred.

• Skills:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to lift and move products, including plants, gardening tools and equipment (up to 50 lbs.).

• Other Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Knowledge of gardening, plants, and outdoor products is a plus.

Work Environment:

• Retail environment, both indoor and outdoor (garden areas).
• Physical work required, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and bending.
