This role creates engaging content, grows and engages digital audiences, and uses performance data to strengthen marketing efforts. The specialist also recruits, coordinates, communicates with, and recognizes episodic volunteers who support signature events and other council priorities. Working under the strategic direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position helps expand the council’s reach, strengthen community relationships, and develop a reliable network of volunteers who can support the council throughout the year.  DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONThe Marketing and Communications team stewards the council’s brand and voice, ensuring consistency and alignment with the Girl Scout mission across all channels. The team leads multi-channel campaigns, manages media and community relations, and develops content that supports membership recruitment and retention, advances organizational priorities, and connects the broader community to our mission impact.  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Digital Communications Own the day-to-day management of the council’s social media channels, including content planning, creation, scheduling and publishing, community management, user-generated content, audience growth, and performance analysis, with an emphasis on significantly increasing follower growth and engagement. Manage and optimize paid digital advertising campaigns in coordination with membership recruitment, program, fundraising, and other council priorities; analyze campaign performance, identify trends, and recommend adjustments to improve reach, engagement, conversion, and return on investment. Develop compelling digital content and stories that showcase the Girl Scout experience, elevate member and volunteer voices, and strengthen awareness of the council’s mission and impact. Support public relations and broader communications efforts through story development, user-generated content, and content creation across multiple channels.  Community Engagement Build and maintain a strong, year-round pool of episodic volunteers who can be recruited, deployed, engaged, and recognized for their support of council signature events and activities. Build relationships with corporate volunteer groups, community organizations, schools, and community partners to expand episodic volunteer opportunities. Maintain accurate episodic volunteer records, including contact information, volunteer interests and preferences, event participation, attendance/no-show history, and other relevant engagement data; use this information to appropriately segment volunteer outreach and improve recruitment and retention. Analyze historical volunteer participation, attendance, no-show, and retention data to forecast volunteer needs and recruitment targets for future events. Manage volunteer communications throughout the event lifecycle, including recruitment, registration confirmation, assignments and shifts, arrival instructions, reminders, day-of information, changes, and post-event follow-up. Perform other job duties as assigned.   Qualifications Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in digital marketing, communications, social media, community or volunteer engagement, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging and professional digital content. Experience planning and evaluating paid digital advertising campaigns to improve results. Experience coordinating volunteers, events, community partnerships, or outreach initiatives preferred. Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and project management skills. SKILLS Social media management, content creation (copywriting and visual storytelling), scheduling, community engagement, and platform administration Paid digital advertising using Meta, Google, LinkedIn, or similar platforms Marketing analytics and campaign reporting Community engagement and online audience growth Volunteer recruitment, coordination, and stewardship Basic knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools Microsoft Office Suite and project management platforms COMPETENCIES Strong communication and interpersonal skills Relationship-building skills with volunteers, community partners, and staff Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Ability to work independently and collaboratively Adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment Initiative and follow-through Customer service mindset Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS Able to lift and carry 25 pounds Must possess a valid California driver’s license, a clean driving record, and provide proof of insurance WORK HOURS/TRAVEL Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel as required (up to 20% within council boundaries), including occasional overnight travel. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and council-required events throughout the year.
