SUMMARY

The Director of Data Analytics will partner with senior CHA staff to engage top health care policy experts, legislative advocates, hospital executives, and communications professionals to produce high-quality, accurate, and insightful analyses to explain the value, performance, and challenges of California hospitals. The Director will be responsible for generating complex health care data reports and providing information and analysis on a time-sensitive basis. The ideal candidate combines strong technical analytics expertise with the ability to translate complex health care data into clear and actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and develop new data visualizations, dashboards, and other analytical tools to better comprehend and translate health care data for advocacy and policy development, as well as assist CHA members as they engage with state regulators. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and steward for large and complex health care datasets, including hospital financial, utilization, quality, and equity-related data.
  • Support the development of methodologies, data definitions, and reporting standards to ensure analytic consistency, transparency, and accuracy across CHA reporting initiatives.
  • Provide data analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and anticipate the impact of state and federal policy changes, particularly those changes generated by the Office of Health Care Affordability. 
  • Analyze hospital trend data using key policy perspectives such as efficiency, inflation, demand, and clinical acuity and translate these analyses into easy-to-understand charts, graphs, and other visuals to explain the conclusions to colleagues, stakeholders, state agency staff, elected officials and CHA members.
  • Provide comprehensive data management of sensitive hospital information in collaboration with CHA’s vendors to maintain the Hospital Quality Improvement Platform and help hospitals complete mandated hospital equity reports on behalf of CHA members. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide clear and concise feedback, analysis, and expertise on data analytics.


REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data analytics, business administration, public health, or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in analytics; health care policy analytics preferred
  • Advanced skills in MS Office software programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook 
  • Experience with data management, statistical analysis, visualization tools, and programming skills (e.g. SAS, SQL, R, Python) 
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex health care data, draw conclusions from the data, and translate insights into discernible information for both technical and non-technical parties in support of CHA’s policy priorities
  • Strong collaborative skills and resourcefulness to make the best use of available resources and data assets
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects in a timely manner, turning concept into reality
  • High degree of initiative and resourcefulness; strong problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with others, verbally and in writing, in an informative and non-technical manner
  • Provides exceptional customer service to CHA members and One Team colleagues
