Working under general supervision, the Humanized Technologist  works in ABSL-2 environment supporting multiple rooms, works with human cells and irradiators to humanize mice, performs basic procedures required to support the creation, maintenance and shipment of Humanized mice,  consistently performing all tasks and procedures according to protocol and associated SOPs.  The incumbent is responsible for general duties performed by everyone in the work area including sanitation/disinfection, barrier entry/exit and safety procedures. May be required to work weekend shifts, holidays, and overtime.

Key Responsibilities (What you contribute)

  • Demonstrate proficiency in animal husbandry, room maintenance and operations, sanitation, record keeping and relevant information systems, standard operating procedures, and staff requests within an ABSL-2 level area. 
  • Specific areas in the lab require independent, basic operation of steam autoclave including incubation and assessment of biological indicators. 
  • Maintain appropriate documentation as required by protocols and SOP’s.
  • Perform basic procedures as required from the functional group requirements and any project needs. Adhere to all SOPs, policies and regulatory procedures. 
  • Performs various advanced bio-methods including but not limited to tail vein injections, blood collection, intraperitoneal injections, identification methods
  • Selecting appropriate mice for sales orders, identifying deviations, and instructing technicians while communicating with supervisors or project managers.
  • Manages information systems modifying & generating correct order
  • documents final quality control, daily shipment approval & close out.
  • Successfully and accurately completes daily Welfare Check and cage side observations for proper food, water, bedding and animal wellbeing. Observe & report variances from health standard. 
  • Submitting animals for CMQ monitoring, necropsy, and Deviant Search.
  • Transporting clean and soiled supplies through materials airlock and other spaces.
  • Performing accurate and timely data entry in databases and documents.
  • Using required technology for communication and documentation processes.
  • Meeting development action plans and providing support and guidance to colleagues.
  • Giving and accepting constructive feedback professionally, following The Jackson Laboratory core values.
  • Supporting and balancing team skills and competencies toward common goals.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned, following the daily schedule to prioritize and complete tasks.

Education: High School Diploma required/ Bachelor's Degree preferred
