Job Description

TeamBuilders is actively recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a leading electrical construction & engineering firm in the Sacramento area.

 

Project Manager Position Overview:
The Project Manager will lead the planning, execution, and successful completion of multiple electrical construction and engineering projects. This position is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company and industry quality standards.

 

The Project Manager will provide strategic leadership to project teams, promote collaboration across field and office operations, and build strong relationships with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.

 

In addition to overall project execution, this role is accountable for financial performance, contract administration, regulatory compliance, change management, and continuous improvement while promoting excellence, innovation, accountability, and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities of the Project Manager:
Project Management & Execution

  • Develop comprehensive project plans defining scope, schedule, budget, resources, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Lead multiple electrical construction and engineering projects from pre-construction through completion and closeout.
  • Coordinate with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, field teams, engineers, and internal stakeholders to establish clear project objectives.
  • Monitor project progress, schedules, costs, quality, and overall performance.
  • Identify project risks, issues, and potential delays and develop proactive mitigation and recovery strategies.
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with contract requirements, project specifications, applicable codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to project teams, including field foremen and support staff.
  • Delegate responsibilities, monitor performance, provide coaching and mentorship, and develop team capabilities.
  • Conduct regular project and team meetings to communicate status, address challenges, and establish strategic direction.
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and solutions-oriented project environment.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track project costs, commitments, expenses, forecasts, and financial performance.
  • Prepare monthly profit projections and monthly billings.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews to identify variances, risks, and opportunities to improve project profitability.
  • Partner with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely invoicing, payments, financial reporting, and collections.
  • Assist with collection efforts to support timely payment from clients.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to maximize project profitability.
  • Review, negotiate, and manage contractual agreements with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, and other trade partners.

Change Order Management

  • Evaluate change order requests and determine their impact on project scope, schedule, cost, resources, and profitability.
  • Develop and submit proposed change orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Negotiate change order terms with general contractors and other stakeholders to ensure fair and appropriate compensation for additional work or project changes.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and tracking of all change orders, including scope changes, costs, approvals, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure change orders are properly incorporated into project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and contractual records.

Document Control & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain effective project document control processes.
  • Ensure project documentation is accurate, complete, current, and readily accessible.
  • Manage plans, drawings, specifications, submittals, change orders, contracts, correspondence, and other project records.
  • Coordinate document review and approval with appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the proper distribution, storage, and retrieval of project documentation.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to compliance practices and other assigned functions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, regulations, contractual requirements, and company policies.

Client & Stakeholder Relations

  • Establish and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other trade partners.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project-related communications and inquiries.
  • Communicate project progress, milestones, risks, financial performance, and key issues effectively to stakeholders.
  • Address and resolve project and stakeholder concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Build trust and credibility through consistent communication, accountability, and follow-through.

Leadership, Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current on electrical construction methodologies, technologies, industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
  • Provide expert guidance to the organization regarding electrical construction practices and emerging technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, operational efficiency, quality, and profitability.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives and process-improvement methodologies.
  • Contribute to and participate in CECI Continuous Improvement events as needed, including JDI, RIE, A3s, and other improvement initiatives.
  • Attend industry conferences, workshops, training programs, and professional development opportunities to expand industry knowledge and share best practices.
  • Promote innovation and operational excellence across the organization.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience of the Project Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical construction project management, preferably with large-scale and complex projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing construction projects of varying size, complexity, and scope from inception through completion.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction methodologies, applicable codes, regulations, specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate project teams, including field foremen and support staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, including project budgeting, cost control, forecasting, profitability analysis, billing, and change order management.
  • Proven ability to identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and resolve issues proactively.
