The Associate is responsible for registering and ordering laboratory testing procedures from multiple locations, creating accounts, obtaining and verifying demographic and insurance information, and interpreting physician laboratory orders. This Associate obtains and verifies that requisitions and specimens include adequate information for patient identity, payment and diagnosis. This person determines specimen adequacy for testing. The training insures the skills required for proper specimen collection, handling and processing.

Responsibilities
Provides excellent Customer Service:
Promote a positive first impression.
Answer customer questions related to admissions, scheduling, insurance and billing.
Work as a resource to all units, departments and team members to positively impact patient care, customer satisfaction and financial reimbursement.
Technical Competency:
Utilize various workflows to prepare specimens for all areas of the laboratory including Central Processing, Hematology, Chemistry, Sendouts, Microbiology, Histology and Cytology.
Independent with equipment technology which includes computers, fax machines, printers, label printers, copiers, scanners, etc. Has the ability to troubleshoot equipment failure, change toner, labels, ribbons, etc.
Registration:
Registers specimens received at the Client Services Center by accurtely inputting all required patient information into Epic ADT, Epic Lab Navigator and Cerner Millennium for laboratory ordering.
Interprets physician orders and converts to a laboratory order for processing
Pulls electronic orders from LifePoint for Client Services.
Utilizes Federal, State and Local government regulations as they relate to Patient Access and billing requirements. These include but are not limited to EMTALA, COBRA, HIPAA, Important Message from Medicare, Red Flag Rules, Advance Beneficiary Notice, Medicare Secondary Payer, No Fault Laws and Worker�s Compensation rules.
Maintains knowledge of multiple insurances and the various insurance�s billing regulations.
Laboratory Competencies:
Documents and reports critical laboratory values.
Maintains confidentiality in relation to patients/families and the organization
Participates in departmental meetings, training sessions, and compliance updates to meet institutional requirements.
Comply with all Covenant and Laboratory policies, procedures and safety practices
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
College Level Chemistry or Biology
Post high school education/experience in medical field
Phlebotomy or Clinical Lab experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Medical Terminology
Relevant government regulations
Multiple insurances and billing regulations
Preferred knowledge of Internet insurance eligibility sites
Multiple computer applications, Windows, Excel, Word and Internet
Excellent customer service skills
Must have excellent verbal communication skills.
Good writing and accurate spelling.
Independent with equipment technology which includesc computers, fax machines, printers, label printers, copiers, credit card processers, scanners, etc.
Ability to type 40 wpm
Ability to problem-solve and prioritize independently, efficiently, and effectively
Ability to work accurately and calmly in multiple fast pace
work environments
