Recreational Therapist- PRN

Job Title: Recreational Therapist (CTRS)

Primary Location: Mary Free Bed at Covenant: 700 Cooper Ave, Saginaw, MI

Department Name: Inpatient Rehab

Employment Type: Regular/ Per Diem, Casual

PRN Requirements: Two weekend days every month, as needed weekday support. In addition, will support with Adaptive Sports Programming.

Shift: 8-hour shifts

Compensation Range: $20.94 and goes up based on experience

Staff will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.Ā 

Provides patient care.Ā 

  • Evaluates patients' premorbid and current leisure functioning.Ā 

  • DeterminesĀ individual goals andĀ objectives, in agreement withĀ patientĀ and/or family.Ā 

  • Develops, implements, andĀ monitorsĀ treatmentĀ planĀ according to the needs of the patient.Ā 

  • Plans, conducts, and coordinates therapeutic recreation services of the department to address patients' treatment plans and developmental levels withĀ age appropriateĀ activities. ServicesĀ mayoĀ include:Ā community activities, small and large group programs, morning, afternoon, evening and weekend programs,Ā passive to activeĀ activities, individual services, and co-therapy programs. Services are to include familiesĀ andĀ siblings asĀ appropriate.Ā 

  • AdaptsĀ activities,Ā equipmentĀ as necessary.Ā

C.DocumentsĀ patient's status and progress throughĀ initialĀ evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary according to established time standards.Ā

D.CommunicatesĀ with others to integrate therapeutic recreation treatment inĀ optimizingĀ total patient care.Ā 

  • Participates in conferences/discussions and exchange of written records with other interdisciplinary team members to integrate therapeutic recreation treatment plan.Ā 

  • Instructs the patient and the family in therapeutic recreation procedures as part of the home program.Ā Ā Provides writtenĀ instructionsĀ as necessary.Ā 

  • Instructs the visiting public, medical students, physicians, and other professionals in theĀ methods ofĀ andĀ objectives in areaĀ of expertise.Ā

Essential Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Education, and Training Requirements):Ā 

  • B.A. in Therapeutic Recreation.Ā Ā 

  • Registered with NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or eligibleĀ withinĀ one year of employment.Ā 

  • Valid MichiganĀ driversĀ license with no restrictions affecting ability to drive vehicles.Ā 

  • Possesses andĀ maintainsĀ CPR certification.Ā 

  • Possesses andĀ demonstratesĀ expertiseĀ in a specific diagnostic area of rehabilitative therapeutic recreation.Ā Ā CanĀ demonstrateĀ leadership and effective communication skills, ability to relate well with people, sensitivityĀ to patients.Ā 

  • DemonstratesĀ abilityĀ to supervise students.Ā 

  • Participates in orientation ofĀ new staff.Ā 

  • The physical ability to lift, position, and transport patients.Ā 

  • The ability toĀ frequentlyĀ sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, twist, crawl, grasp, reach, and occasionally climb.Ā 

  • The ability to hear, speak, write, and see (correctable vision).Ā 

  • The ability toĀ frequentlyĀ lift upĀ to 75Ā pounds, andĀ occasionally liftĀ in excess ofĀ 75 pounds.Ā 

  • The ability to occasionally push, pull, or carry weight anywhere from 1 to 100+ pounds whileĀ assistingĀ patients and moving equipment.Ā 

  • The ability to exert up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-20 pounds of forceĀ frequently, and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly.Ā

  • Experience or knowledge of adapting equipment and leisure education.Ā
