SCCMHA JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT 

Custodial Technician - Full Time

Pay Range:  $17.56 - $20.18 Hourly

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  

Under the general supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor and/or Facilities Supervisor. Performs a wide variety of custodial and maintenance tasks for Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA) and its satellite locations to ensure a healthy, safe and sanitary environment. This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support culturally competent recovery based practices; person centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his/her life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumer in the recovery process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

1. Routinely performs general custodial tasks to provide clean and care for buildings and facilities in order to ensure they are maintained in a safe and healthy manner and meet maintenance and housekeeping schedule and quality requirements (i.e. Clean offices; mop tile and concrete floor areas; vacuum; dusting; empty waste baskets and garbage cans; and strip, clean, wash and buff floors with floor polisher).

2. Maintain and secure storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public. Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner. Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies; restock and prepare usage and inventory reports.

3. Performs light maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting doors, oiling locks/latches, painting, etc. Monitors and inspects equipment and machinery for proper functioning and calls Environmental Services Supervisor and/or Facilities Supervisor for assistance when necessary. Provides assistance for maintenance on SCCMHA vehicles.

4. Performs driving of agency vehicles for distributing ice salt, picks ups and deliveries of various items and maintain records.

5. Provide customer service support and functions to consumers, staff and the public (i.e. loading a delivery of freight; handle recycling materials and vendor coordination).

6. Moves and stores furniture, supplies and equipment. Sets up and arranges furniture for meetings and other events as directed and dismantles arrangement when meeting is concluded.

7. Lock and unlock assigned buildings: secure building when facilities are not in use. Checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.

8. Responds to calls from staff for advice or assistance during working hours and occasionally during non-working time.

9. Makes pick ups and deliveries of various items using SCCMHA vehicle and may be required to do vehicle maintenance and maintain driving records.

10. Adheres to the mission, vision, core values and operating principles of SCCMHA at all times.

 

INCIDENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Drives vehicle to assist consumers.

2. Assists with building security practices. Observes area for fire and unlawful entry, reporting such occurrences in accordance with policy.

3. Attends meetings, seminars, or workshops in order to sustain competency in duties.

4. Reacts productively to change and handles other essential tasks as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Environmental Services Supervisor and/or Facilities Supervisor

Supervises:


 WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:

Works in inside and outside and drives vehicle under all weather conditions. Must be available to move around all facility locations on an irregular and “as needed” basis. Regularly performs heavy physical labor. Exposed to cleaning chemicals and hazards of operation of power maintenance equipment.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

Education:  

High School diploma or equivalent with courses in industrial arts.


Experience:   

One (1) year of experience working in a business/healthcare setting as a custodian. Experience with equipment, machinery, light maintenance and repair including vehicle maintenance will be given preference.


Licsenses and Certifications:

Valid Michigan Chauffeur’s license and maintain an excellent driving record.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   


1. Knowledge of custodial functions, cleaning chemicals and equipment, and basic maintenance.

2. Mechanical skills.

3. Basic reading and writing skills.

4. Ability to communicate with individuals from all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.


 Physical/Mental Requirements:

1. Hearing acuity to converse in person and on the telephone.

2. Visual acuity to read and fill out forms.

3. Ability to bend, reach, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and lift 50 pounds bench height, and 25 pounds above the shoulders.

4. Manual dexterity to use cleaning equipment and tools.

5. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, consumers and the general public.

6. Mental ability to follow instructions, analyze data, use judgment and make sound decisions.

7. Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time.

8. Ability to handle stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or consumers.
